Hi Old Hollywood,
I have recently been diagnosed with asthma and was wondering if I could get the group's input on short-acting inhalers in the US. I have been reading that many or perhaps even all of the short-acting inhalers have some affect on the heart. For instance, they may cause rapid heart rate, palpitations, etc. In addition to asthma, I also suffer from a heart arrhythmia called sinus tachycardia (rapid heart rate). I have informed my Doctor of this condition, however I want to make sure that we select an inhaler that is relatively safe for me. Could someone please tell me which rescue inhalers tend to cause the least amount of cardiac side effects?
I heard from other members on this board that there were less side effect (rapid heart racing) from Xopenex(short acting inhaler)
My doctors seems to believe this as well.
He gave me the hand out on it.
To clarify it does come in a inhalation aerosol in the U.S. according to the advertisement he gave me on 7/06.
He mentioned he was willing to prescribe this to me on perhaps my next visit
because I explained to him that the Albuterol causes me to feel rapid heart beat/palpitations/jitters.
My holter monitor test showed I have heart arrhythmia ,sinus tachycardia , skipped heart beats.
This makes me sensitive and prone to the side effects of Albuterol.
