Re: SCARED-please help, 3 year old asthma out of control?

You know Celtic I was just thinking the same thing. I was beginning to worry a little bit that Shelly hasn't posted in a few days. I hope things are going okay.

Karly is doing pretty good right now, she's starting to get that runny nose so I'm watching her real close and starting her on that nose spray Ipatropium Bromide to try to dry up that mucous before it triggers her asthma.

Re: SCARED-please help, 3 year old asthma out of control?

Glad Karly is doing all right. I've never heard of Ipatropium Bromide spray, but I will have to get some. I was finally officially dx'd with asthma and since mine appears to be non-allergic in nature, I know I'm going to freak the next time I get a cold. I did pick up some airborne to have on hand, I've heard it works. Not sure if Karly is old enough to have that or not though.

Karly is 2 1/2 years old.

Ipatropium Bromide is a prescription nose spray that is supposed to help dry up the excess mucous. You don't use it all of the time. It's supposed to be used for like two weeks I think. Check with your doctor and see what they think about it.

That's weird, we use it -- also known as Atrovent in combination with albuterol with the nebulizer. It's a bronchiodialator that we use with cpt treatments to get the gunk out of our son's lungs.

Re: SCARED-please help, 3 year old asthma out of control?

I'm on both forms of atrovent. With the nose spray, I use it daily and haven't had an issue with excessive dryness yet *knock on wood*. They also make the atrovent in inhaler and nebulizer form to act as a bronchodialator to dry up the excessive mucous secreations, but generally it's used more with severe asthma, copd and CF where excessive mucous production is a daily issue.
