Question 31 - Male - Hot Flashes ?

Ok, so I am a 31 year old male dealing with a daily issue in regards to hot flashes. Everyday around 1:30 - 2:30 I get very hot, it is especially noticeable on my face. I begin sweating and just being very uncomfortable in general.

Last week I went to the Dr. to discuss this and a slew of other issues. Mainly being dead tired all of the time. Just feeling physically exhausted, as well as mentally foggy and such. Knowing I have McArdles disease my doctor and I attribute some of my physical tiredness to that. However the reason for going in to talk to her about the new changes is because well in the last two months its like I hit a brick wall. I have just been exhausted all the time, and this was something new. That and the hot flashes made me wonder if something else was going on (thyroid, hormonal) something!

So we agreed to do some blood work. Everything came back normal she said, the only issue is my elevated CK levels (3,500). Which well for the normal person it is bad, but for McArdles disease it is typically high. In severe cases I have had CK levels come back in the 100,000+. No signs of any thyroid issue which is good.

She also gave me some Provigil 200mg daily to help with the mental alertness and to break the fogginess I have been having. I have to admit it seems to be helping with that. However as I told her today I still physically feel blah and very tired. We discussed it and thought maybe it was just related to the McArdles disease. I seem weaker, and get sore easier. I explained I was under the impression McArdles was not an MD that really progressed any. So I was not sure why it would get worst?

Honestly the most annoying and aggravating thing right now is this darn hot flash feeling. I also find it very odd to really just happen between this specific time period daily. That strikes me as very odd.

Hoping someone can read this and either relate or maybe guide me in a direction for researching this more.

Regards.

Re: 31 - Male - Hot Flashes ?

Hi techguy, welcome to the board!

I know it is frustrating to feel so crummy and not know why. I am not familiar with McArdles disease so I don't know what symptoms it can cause. I highly recommend that you have your thyroid checked. In addition to the regular tests that are done, request the Free T3, Free T4 (besides the T3 and T4) and thyroid antibody tests. They are not usually done but are necessary for a comprehensive view. Realize that even if your tests are in the normal range, they may not be optimal for you especially when you are having symptoms. In my non-medical opinion, your symptoms sound very much like a thyroid disorder.

When you get your results, post them on the thyroid board at this site. The people there are wonderful and can help you interpret them. I suggest posting your question there also for their feedback.

Hang in there okay? Do not give up, you will find out what is wrong. Keep me posted on how you are okay?
