Birth control

I'm trying out different birth controls and my latest was Alesse, I stopped it yesterday after a week and a half, I started getting cystic like acne and unbelievably oily skin, among a lot of other side effects. I have mild-moderate acne normally. I was on the nuva ring for awhile and my skin did well on that but I'm not fond of the idea of using a ring. So my question is what type of pill should I try if alesse worked horribly and nuva ring was pretty good. I'm a new poster, thanks for your help.

Re: Birth control

I think the problem with BC pills is that some contain copper. Not all do but only some. And the reason for that is simple, when estrogen levels go up copper must too. When a woman gets cravings for chocolate around the time of her period it is for the copper. Dark chocolate contains more copper than milk chocolate.

Low zinc can also cause acne. Zinc and copper are antagonistic, meaning they balance each other. You probably just need some more zinc. There is a way to tell if you are deficient in zinc. Buy Zinc Status in the health food store for about $15 and you will know immediately.

Ann Louise Gittleman had a copper toxicity problem and wrote a book on this. She is a nutritionist but did not realize that she had a copper problem because copper is not considered toxic by most doctors. But if you get too much it can cause some problems like a sluggish liver or adrenal glands.

The problem is that too much copper can cause the same exact symptoms that an estrogen dominance causes and also the same symptoms as thryoid problems. It can be hard to detect.

You could try asking your doctor for a BC pill or other method that does not expose your to any additional copper. Or, you could try taking a zinc supplement.
