Re: Recently taking Actos but have gained weight. Is this a side effect?

I have been on actos 15 mg and then 2 months later my Dr. increased it to 45 mg. I gained about 10 lbs in the first six weeks dispite being careful with my diet. I am also Insulin dependent dibetic taking 70/30 and Lantus. My Dr. found that the Actos was causing water/ fluid retention. I was given Lasix generic eq. Furosemide 40 mg for three days and I was back to my normal weight and a lot more comfortable. If your fingers feel tight and your legs are heavy and tight when you bend this might be the problem. One of the major side effects of Actos is fluid retention. Now I take the Lasix on and off as needed when I feel the symptoms. Make sure you talk to your dr. about a potassium supplement if you do try the water pill. good luck
