Hi Patty, the antibiotics will be a 10 day dose. You have to be sure that you pick this up from your pharmacist as close to your surgery as possible - as it only has a shelf life of 10 days once it is mixed in liquid form (so either the day of surgery or the night before). I ended up with an allergic reaction to the liquid form, so I had to stop it 2 days after surgery. After I stopped the anti-biotic - I ended up developing an infection, which I then had to go on flaygyl & cipro for 10 days in pill for, (that was at the end of week 2 of recovery) I am currently 5 weeks out from surgery and feeling much better, all anti-biotics are finished - but the big downer is that I can't taste much and it really sucks. (we have another thread going for those of us suffering from this side effect) worrysome, as some have not had their taste for 2, 3, 6 months and even up to 2 years. It is really something that is very very annoying and hard to deal with.
Sorry to get off on a rant there - as for the sleeping, I am a side sleeper, I can't sleep on my back for the life of me. But I found that it helps to have your head elevated a bit - 2 or 3 pillows should do. You have a lot of phlem after surgery and I found myself gagging and coughing up more when I didn't have my head elevated. Plus a humidifier will help, as your mouth tends to get really dry while you sleep.
