Another question...

My doctor says he wants my blood sugar in the 80-140 range in the AM. when I get up. I am averaging mostly in the 170's-180's...in the morning. That's before breakfast. I am thinking I probably need to increase my amaryl dosage in the evening..before bedtime. Should I wait a bit longer..before contacting my doctor? I know we just went on vacation..so my blood sugar is out of whack right now..but, it was averaging this before vacation. Just wondering.

Re: Another question...

Is this Dr. on the ball???
Those #'s sound too high. Why doesn't he want to shoot for closer to "normal" as the higher end of your range???(that would be 100)
It sounds like you could use a change in your med or dose... and possibly a new, more up to date M.D.

Re: Another question...

This MD. is not a specialist on diabetes...but an internist. I was thinking maybe cause he was hoping my diet changes, etc. would bring it down some. I am newly diagnosed..so thinking he's just increasing my meds slowly. But you are right..if he says..keep it like it is..and I'm uncomfortable with his answers...I will get another opinion from another dr. I am waiting..since we just got back from vacation..and I didn't eat like I should all the time while away...that I'll give it another week..then call...if the blood sugar still hasn't come down. Thanks for your input.

Re: Another question...

ask your MD for a referral to an endocrinologist. (If you need a referral)
You have to feel comfortable with the person treating you. My first experience w/ an endo was poor, so I found another, whom I like a lot!!

so, definitely don't settle for anwers that you know in your heart aren't the ones that are right for you personally. Absolutely exercise and diet matter , but you really need some help along the way w/ reassurance, diabetes education, and someone besides this message board that you can call on the phone if you have concerns.

Good luck Phyllis!!!
