Re: Questions about psa levels

I am 44 year old male suffering from frequent urination.
My PSA level came in at 0.5. I was taking Propecia (for hair loss)
at that time. Do you think Propecia will mask the real PSA?

DRE didn't reveal any enlargement.
Can anyone speculate on my frequent urination and if it's related
to prostrate? My urine culture ruled out UTI.

Re: Questions about psa levels

Were you having frequent urination while taking propecia? Since propecia is used to treat Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy in men as well as baldness. My fil was taking propecia for BPH.
Did you tell your dr you were on propecia prior to the psa? I think it does alter your psa in some way, although I don't know for sure. You need to let your dr know or ask him.

Re: Questions about psa levels

No. I didn't experience frequent urination problem while taking Propecia.
I took Propecia for hair regrowth on my own. I stopped this after a year.
Looks like I may have to see an Urologist. I wanted to avoid going through
all these tests, if I see an Urologist.
