captopril + Ziac: the best dosage plz?

Hello,

I haven't post anything for the last couple of weeks because I have been through many procudures to diagnose my Thyroid dysfucntion, anyway I have Thyroiditis and I take Carbimazole 5 mg twice daily. Now I'm on 2.5 of Ziac and my blood pressure is 130/100 and sometimes 140/100 and 140/90. I want add a new Med, something new, so I found that we have Captopril 25mg so I want give it a try and see what will happen.

I had side effects with Atacand, Cozaar and Norvasc so I want try something new until I gradually take myself out of Ziac so do you think that Captopril is fine? what's the initial dosage for me? 25 mg?
Thanks
Michael

Re: captopril + Ziac: the best dosage plz?

michael,

I feel the captopril is a FAR better choice...and a LOT cheaper than Norvasc or the stupndously expensive Ziac...charging $2.50 a pill for a beta-blocker with HCTZ is criminal.

If you've never tried an ACEI, a good class of meds, there is the REAL risk of endless coughing. But the only way to find out is to TRY it. If you don't cough and you get good numbers with it, you've found the best route to BP control.

Any thyroid medication probably has a HUGE effect on BP.

Re: captopril + Ziac: the best dosage plz?

Hello Lenin,

Again, thanks for your fast and helpful reply. I'm on Carbimazole 5 mg twice daily, you said it has HUGE effect on BP. Can you tell me how? it's raises BP ?

Ok I want separate Meds so I can know and understand which ones causes which side effects because I feel so bad these days but I noticed that when I reduced Beta-Blocker from 5 mg ot 2.5 my concentration has improved. By the way, cost means nothing to me because I'm in Egypt and a Ziac pill costs 0.40 pound .

back to the subject, I will not take Captopril now because I want stop Beta-blocker first. Today I took 2.5 mg Zebeta and a brought a diuretic called "Moduretic" which is HCT 50 mg + Amiloride Hydrochloride 5 mg. I take half the pill with the half of the zebeta pill and my bp is now 120/90

I think I don't feel that wierd feeling that I had with Atacand so I will try to take that diuretic for a couple of weeks until I stop Zebeta.

Lenin, it's a war between human and High BP lol. I don't know if I can fight this thing or let it kill me.
Thanks again for your help
Michael
