Byetta anyone...

I'm fairly new to this site as well as T2. I've been on Metformin for 2 years now. The weight loss is very, very slow. However, I was just recently informed that my A1C is 7.0. Both my HDL, LDL and blood pressure have all improved, yet my Endo. would like me to take this new Rx (or maybe it's not so new) called BYETTA. I welcome any feedback I can get. For those who have yet to hear about this....BYETTA is indicated as adjunctive therapy to improve glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who are taking metformin. Thanx.

Re: Byetta anyone...

Hi

I've been using Byetta for several months now. I started with the 5 mg pen and now I'm using the 10 mg pen. I am also on 1000mg of glucovance twice a day. My diabetes is very hard to control due to all the stress I am under. My nephew, 10 y/o, has cancer and his mother, him and I go to the hospital 2 x a week for two weeks, then spend 6-14 in the hospital as in patients for chemo. I take care of my nephew and his mother, who is unable to competely care for herself and her son due to psychological disabilities. the Byetta pen allows me to have better control over my diabetes, especially when I cannot eat properly. Hospital cafeteria food, being not very good, does not have many diabetic choices, (strange for a hospital), and is expensive over a 6-14 day stay. I try to take food with me, there is a kitchen on the peds floor with a microwave, but it is very difficult finding foods that are affordable and taste good, while also being good for me.

My glucose levels are around 235-300 on hospital days, and 150-180 on non-hospital days. I like the Byetta pen, it is very easy to administer, though sometimes it is hard to maintain the refridgerated temp required. It is also very expensive. I do not have insurance, and my doctor provides me with samples each month, but she does not have samples of the needles required.

If you have good insurance, hopefully you will like this product.

Re: Byetta anyone...

I work with a man who has been put on Byetta recently and he is thrilled with it. He has even had to back off taking his oral medications because his blood glucose levels dropped so much and he had to adjust.

I have recently been put on insulin. My Doctor wants me to continue to take my oral meds which is at the limit allowed. I also started taking cinnamon capsules which has really helped my glucose numbers. I may go on Byetta at some point.

Re: Byetta anyone...

I saw my internist 4 days ago and was placed on byetta, which I've yet to start. Logged on and have found soooo much info on this new drug, some kind of scary. I'm most concerned about the nausea that seems to be prevalent when first initiating this drug. Will be taking my first dose on Nov. 22, 2005 and hope I can bypass the nausea. My status is type 2 and I'm currently on amaryl and hoping to decrease my fasting blood sugars which are running 120-160.
