Can Someone Help

I Have Talked To A Few People In Here, And I Have Another Question, I Have Cronic Back Pain For 3 Years Now, Had Back Surgery In 2002 On L4-l5-s1, And I Tryed Methadone For The Last 6 Months, It Worked For Pain, But Way To Many Side Affects, So Now I'm Back On Oxycontin, But What Should My Family Doctor Have Started Me Out At... Because What He Gave Me Is Not Enough,and For The Last 5 Days I've Been Really Sick And In A Lot Of Pain, And They Said It Will Take 2 Weeks Before Methadone Is Out Of My System, And I'm Going Threw Hell,
2 Question, --- Is There A Difference Between Real Oxycontin Like The 10-20-40-and 80's And Compounded Oxycontin, I'm Getting The Compounded Stuff, And They Can Make Any Dose, They Tryed To Tell Me It Would Last For 12 Hours, And Thats A Lie, When I Took It Before I Only Got 4 To 5 Hours Of Relief, With The Real Oxycontin I Get At Least 10 Hours, So Can Some One Answer These To Questions,

Dear Bucky,

I am a CP patient due to a thrilling involvement with Lupus. I have not had back pain as you have described.

However, my observation (that I hope helps you) is that these various pain medications help people in different ways. Even people who have the EXACT same problem may not receive the same relief from the same medication.

Certainly, I am not a doctor. (I can barely even spell it!) However, I have received tremendous relief from my problem(s) with the Duragesic Patch 75 mcg for long-term relief. For breakthrough pain, I use Dilaudid (hydromorphone) 8mg and Actiq 800 mcg. While these medications work reasonably well for me, they may not work very well for someone else with my condition.

Perhaps your physician can "experiment" with the large variety of pain relievers.

There is an excellent person who regularly posts by the name Shoreline (Dave) who offered me great suggestions. He is extremely helpful to many of us, and I'm sure he will read this soon. So, look for his post. He has excellent advice.

I guess I haven't offered much help, but maybe a response will offer you optimism. That is why we exist!

wow, well your doctor obviously doesnt have u on enough oxyC because u are going through withdrawels, compunded oxyC or not you should be getting enough either way to not have withdrawles. That is crap that your doctor is like "2 weeks of withdrawels then youll be fine". that is such BS. The doctor is supposed to dose enough to make the transition smooth and without W/d's. My opinion....., find a new doc, this doc is a joke, i cant believe he thinks its ok for you to suffer. And if he wont get u the bran oxyC, go to a new doc, i persoanlly take purdues MS contin, the brand name, and it is sooooo much better and last more on the 12hr side than the generic. And any, and i mean any post you read on oxyC on here will tell you that the generic is weaker, but that is all some people can take due to theri insurance. buti bet if u asked em which they would take, 101% would tell the purdue. well thats my 2 cents. I am very sorry for your misery, it is ALL your doctors fault, and im serious about that. you should go to the ER and tell them you are in pain, which you are, and then maybe your DR will get the $%#&&@%~!@^!@&!# point. It makes me sick what yoyu are going throuh.

hello bucky. what dose of methadone were you on before switching back to oxycontin? and how does the pharmacy say that the compounded oxy works? does it have a time release like oxycontin? I guess if it is compounded it is in capsule form which makes me wonder if it truly is long acting. if the pharmacy puts oxycodone in a capsule plus the fillers than how could it be long acting?? i would think that it would release just like an immediate release drug like percocet, unless it has some sort of special capsule but that to me does not make sense either but i am no doc, pharmacist or even scientist for that matter. but this would explain why you are only getting 4-6 hours of relief. the real oxycontin states that it should last for 12 hours and you all know that your lucky to get 8 hours of pain relief with it so most docs will prescribe it 3 times daily. so something that is compounded like that in my mind could only be short acting. is it prescribed every 8 hours? I am not sure if you mantioned that but i hope your doc ups your dose so you can get proper relief.

I looked back on previous posts of yours and it looks like you were on 45mg every 12 hours of meth. So what dose has your doc put you on in order to start off with your transition from meth. to oxycontin?

does anybody out there know what a good conversion would be when converting from 45mg of methadone twice daily to oxycontin?
