Does anyone's GERD make their heart skip?

I have numerous pvc's and also gerd. I don't even notice that I have the classical heartburn, but it is so bad that it comes up into my throat and burns my throat to where I'm coughing all the time. I noticed that when it's bad it makes my heart skip more, anyone else have this? Michelle

Re: Does anyone's GERD make their heart skip?

Yes, I absolutely have that! I also have PVC's quite frequently, I have been having those for years, before the GERD. But, I definitely notice that they really increase if I'm having any kind of digestive upset, especially the acid reflux. The only thing that seems to help is some Pepcid and lots of water. Do you notice that you will get the PVC's more frequently, and stronger after you eat anything? I've been really noticing that, it's like after a meal, I can just expect them to be worse. I have definitely related the PVC's to hormonal changes also, so I guess they have several causes. I read once where, once your heart is used to having the PVC's, then the cells in your heart are more sensitive to having them over and over again, such as when you have GERD attacks.
I've been really having alot of acid reflux lately, it's been increasing alot for me. I have to try not to lay down too soon after eating, I know that always works out bad for me. Also, chocolate and milk seem to really cause it for me, especially if I lay around after eating that. I just hate the feeling of waking up with all of that acid coming up, and then I'm coughing and wheezing for the longest time, sometimes it's really hard to catch my breath. I've never been treated for this, and I know I should probably get that endoscopy thing, but it's because of the PVC's that I'm afraid to do that procedure. I'm thinking that it could trigger a bad attack of those, to have something put down my throat like that. I'm definitely avoiding this one! But, I guess if I've been having such bad acid reflux for so long now, I guess I'm supposed to get it checked. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that those two things definitely go hand in hand, I know that PVC's are worsened when you have any digestive disorder. Good luck! Val

Re: Does anyone's GERD make their heart skip?

I was diagnosed with Gerd in August (thought I was having a heart attack and I am only 34!), started having heart flutters couple months ago. I have a multi nodular thyroid goiter (very small though, can't even see it) and thought that was what was causing my flutters, but was just thinking today that they get worse after I eat sometimes and especially when I am having reflux problems... I hate these flutters, they scare the crap out of me sometimes. Have the scope done, its not bad at all, they put you to sleep and you wake up a few minutes later when its done. I feel it is very important to have this done! I take toprol xl for the flutters which has helped a great deal.

Re: Does anyone's GERD make their heart skip?

hi, im so glad that i found and read what ive been looking for, my 12 year old has been having heart flutters as well and he has real bad acid refux as well, he had the endscopy done today, and his esophugus and throat looked just fine, but the only thing is hes been having bad chest pains with this, but hes also has had a ekg done on his heart, and his heart was fine but what the doctor saw was he has a little of erthimia as well, so the medicine that he was taking was 30 milligrams of previcid and it was not working on him anymore, 30 mill ,is alot for his age and he was even taking one in the morning and evening and it still was not working, so the doctor prescibed a pill for him that totaly coats his esophugus, and if that dont work and control his pain, then his gastro doctor said surgery will be next, my son has been through this since last may, and it has got worse, so i am going to take him to see a heart doctor as well, to see about fixing his erthmia and heart flutters, and he weighs 125 pounds and hes only 5ft1. so if you would like to reply please do so, it would make me feel better to know if someone here is going through the same thing. thanks
