Lightbulb ciprofloxacin

Has anyone ever had an allergic reaction to ciprofloxacin, if so can you give me all your side effects you had, as my daughter has been seriously ill for 3 months, which in this time we nearly lost her, any information what so ever would be a great help. Thankyou in advance.

Re: ciprofloxacin

I think I answered this one earlier, but here it goes...

I had a reaction to Avelox, which is also produced by Bayer, and is almost identical to Cipro (same type of drug, a floroquinolone antibiotic).

My reaction consisted of

1. bilateral ulnar neuritis
2. small-cell vasculitis
3. abnormal heart rhythm
4. chronic tendonitis in legs and wrists
5. runaway anxiety/panic attacks for weeks
6. myalgia

my reaction was verified by 2 doctors, and Bayer.

2 years later, I still have neurological problems. Cipro has killed hundreds, and maimed tens of thousands worldwide. It is one of the most dangerous drugs a person can take.

I should also point out that, technically, Cipro is NOT an antibiotic. It is a chemo-theraputic agent used to kill strong bacteria. It's a designer drug.

Re: ciprofloxacin

I wound up with severe tendonitis/bursitis in my hip after taking Cipro.. I was in physical therapy for months. Then years later I took Levaquin (same class of drugs) and got the severe tendonitis in my shoulder. I didn't put it all together until 6 months after the Levaquin I took a week of Cipro again for a bad infection and my shoulder flared immediately back up and I had to go back into PT. The problem with the first two incidents is the tendonitis slowly developed so I didn't have the worst pain until 2-3 months after taking the meds, so it wasn't obvious until that 3rd prescription that there was a connection. I now tell all docs that I can't take quinolone drugs.
As for an allergy.. you can have allergies to them. I had one to another form called Factiv (it's new on the market so keep an ear out.. it's also a quinolone). I had no tendon reactions, but the last day of my dosage I broke out in a rash from head to toe so I am officially allergic to it. Many of us who have other reactions are simply reacting to the chemicals in the drug.. I wouldn't say it's a confirmed "allergy" though.

Re: ciprofloxacin

During sinus surgery, I was pumped full of IV antibiotics, and then put on Leviquin for 10 days. During that time, I noticed my ankle/calves getting a little tight. I knew tendinitis was a side effect, so I was very carful with my physical activity. A few weeks later, I was back to normal. That's my only adverse reaction to an quinolone. I have taken Cipro many times without incident.

What are your daughter's symptoms? I think you can have severe adverse effect without it being an actual allergy.
