Re: Headache in a 13 yo...plz help!

MZ Migraine,

The neuro is a pediatric neurologist. Thats all I know. The meds he is on are amitryptilin and actiq...also known as fentanyl.

Today his headache is abetter, but not gone. It is never gone. He was on the school football team. He had a hard hit to the back about 5 days before the headaches started. A chiro practor did say he had tight muscles on the one side but the xray looked good.

I'm at a loss of what to do next....

Re: Headache in a 13 yo...plz help!

there is something called Post-traumatic headache - a diagnosis that is accepted but not necessarily easy to reach.

I found a very interesting article published in Journal of Neurology Neurosurgery and Psychiatry 2002;72:ii6-ii9

NEW DAILY PERSISTENT HEADACHE
Peter J Goadsby and Christopher Boes,*

I don't want to get in trouble for posting URL as I don't know if this a commercial site, but it's a very interesting READ.

Re: Headache in a 13 yo...plz help!

I was reading baout your sons headaches. I was in a torando and my face and head were crushed. I have had a headache 24/7 since the tornado in 1997. I went to many doctors. Had amy scans and tests. They all showed I was in pain. Then one doctor asked me if I was ever given a nerve block shot in the head. It is call a occipictial (spelling) nerve block. There is a nerve that runs on both sides of the back of the head. When in an accident some people get by the best terms a whiplash effect. Once I had the nerve block my headaches that were caused from that region of the head decreased. I now go once amonth and get the shots in the head.
If you want to know more let me know and I will give you the details with the correct spelling. The nerve blocks las about 2 weeks. I have other types of headaches and migraines and take many diffrent meds. Here is a list of them.
Actiq 800mcg {3x Daily}
Methadone 10mg {3 Tablets 3-4 x Daily}
Oxycodone 30mg {3-4x Daily}
Prozac {2x Daily}
Miralax {1x Daily}
Provigil 200mg{1x Daily}
Zomig 5mg {prn}
Imitrex 5mg & 10mg nasal{prn}
Imitrex oral 10mg {prn}
Phenergan 25mg Oral & Supp{prn}
Ambien { prn}
I take more but these are the ones that have to do with the treatment of the headaches. I have a heacache all the time it ranges on the pain meter from 3 to 10 (migraine).
As I said if you wish more info on the shots please let me know.
Good luck,
Mo
