Re: What is the quickest way to fade a face full of dark scars?

ok, there are many misconceptions about scars. using lightening products may help slightly, but it's only masking the problem(if they even work) and they're not fixing it. when u have scars, u have scar tissue in that spot. they form as your body's response to heal itself quickly for protection. lightening wont help too too much, and btw, if you are going to lighten, i would suggest you dont use hydroquinone as it is banned in several countries because it can cause severe long term effects if overused or used for too long. i would suggest using products with natural lighteners such as bearberry, licorice root, mulberry root, ascorbic acid, lactic acid, etc.(i myself use makari).

oook, for scars...to git rid of scar tissue, u need to break up the scar proteins so your body can more quickly and easily dissolve them and replace them with fresh, normal skin tissue. to do this, you can use several things, hydroxy acids(glycolic, lactic, etc) to help dissolve the top layers of skin. that can at least help to bring about some improvements. retinol is also said to be very good for scars. i myself and waiting on a creme with retinol to try it. or you could go for deeper peels such as obagi blue peel or a tca peel. the gives more dramatic results than the other hydroxy acids. also, copper peptides are very effective at helping to repair scar tissue. i would start looking in that direction to see what options you have. but for a full face, i would start using a glycolic or lactic acid product, depending on how sensitive your skin is. then probably some copper peptide serums or cremes. (www.skinbiology.com) has a lot of info there. especially for scars. they can probably have you completely clear in a little less than a year with the right products. i used their products a long time ago and they worked very well on my skin and i'm about to start it up again. i have a few scars myself. anyway, hope this helps.

Re: What is the quickest way to fade a face full of dark scars?

I used hydroquinone 3% for the past 14 years (almost everyday) and I'm fine.
I think the effects are overrated, just like accutane, vioxx and other medicines out there.

I think this person really meant dark marks, not scars.

Re: What is the quickest way to fade a face full of dark scars?

I've just found a new product to treat dark marks that i'm trying out, looks pretty exciting!!

I've used obaji for years to control both my dark marks and my acne but since it's so so expensive, time consuming to use so many products, and the intermittent peeling is both inconvenient and irritating. Whenever i stop the Obaji or miss a few days, I break out in a major way and have to start again. I'm always on the lookout for a simpler product with less downtime, and hopefully no hydroquinone.

Anyway, I was on holiday in dubai, walked into a drugstore, and the pharmacist walked up to me as I was peering through the shelves, and suggested two products which i bought thinking they'd be no good just to get away!

The first one was IKLEN serum, a small silver bottle, (they also had a cream to use for maintenance after correction which I didn't buy), and she said to use one spray on my palms, spread over whole face, and then one more spray to dab over very dark spots, twice a day. This apparently has a new ingredient called Rucinol in it, which reduces pigment over 6 weeks without irritation or peeling.

The second product she recommended was FAIR and LOVELY lotion, to use as a moisturiser and sun protection. This has niacinamide which accelerates turnover gently, similar to an AHA but not as harsh. I had actually seen this before but never tried it.

She also said I should only use cold or tepid water to wash my face with any mild cleanser, no scrubs, and no picking at spots, and that if my skin was really addicted to retin a, i could still use it at night over the IKLEN.

I've been using them both (without the retin a) for two weeks now, my skin is pretty calm, the breakouts I had at the time I started have subsided, no new scars. My marks aren't totally gone yet but have faded quite a bit, and my skin seems like it has a softer smoother surface, moisturised but not oily.

I'll give it 6 weeks and report back.
