Re: chronic sinusitis

I've had never ending sinus problems and was beginning to wonder if there was any hope. I've taken every medication out there, as well as herbal remedies, and nothing works. The big pain in the neck is that I am also epileptic and have a reaction to antihistimines (they lower my seizure threshold), so I'm wondering if surgery might be a possibility for me, or if this nasty sinusitis is just something I'll have to live with. Thanks for the help guys.

Re: chronic sinusitis

I know what you mean about taking antihistimines. I suffer from VERY bad anxiety and all of them make me anxious, with the exception being Actifed (don't ask why.. it just doesn't). Which makes it harder for my dr's because they've given me zyrtec, clariton, allegra and they all exasperate my anxiety. I actually stopped taking the flonaise because I felt like it was making me more anxious. I know it sounds bad, but in a lot of ways I want to have my abdoids out, my 11 year old cousin used to be sick all the time, colds, ear infections, sinus infections, but once they came out he was fine.

Re: chronic sinusitis

I took that (it's cipro, right?) but it made me so sick that I couldn't keep it down so it didn't do me any good. I am now on augmention and still feeling neasuated from it but not as bad as from the cipro. But if you can tolerate it, cipro is a very good med!

Re: chronic sinusitis

Hello, I just read that you are taking Cipro, and feel that I must warn you about that particular drug and it's class, fluoroquinolone antibiotics. I was given 20 days of Levaquin (same class as Cipro) in December of '04 for a sinus infection and bronchitis.

My life was destroyed by taking that drug, every day since has been a nightmare of pain, fatigue, nerve damage, weakness, and a whole myriad of other disabling/debilitating adverse reactions. It has been over a year, and I still require braces on my feet and knees to get around. I can only walk short distances at a time.

While many people are able to tolerate fluoroquinolones for short periods of time, many others are not, especially when they are taken for longer periods.
Side effects from fluoroquinolones can appear months or even years after a patient stops taking them, and can persist from months to years. In some cases the adverse reactions appear permanent. Many people who are injured never relate the drug to their ailments due the late-onset of symptoms, and the simple fact that antibiotics are touted as 'safe' by the medical community.

There are thousands of people on the internet sharing their horror stories about this class of drugs. I hope that I am not breaking any of this forum's rules by sharing this particular piece of information.

I have now devoted what I have left of my life to try and educate people on the dangers of these drugs, to try and raise awareness among doctors, patients, and government bodies who were placed in charge of maintaining public health, and who have, IMO, failed miserably.

Thanks
