Re: Please Help My son's Penis is very Red !!!

this is off topic but i thought i'd post here. sorry to hijack your thread. my husband and i are expecting a boy in 6 weeks. after much persuasion and research on my part we decided that we will not have him circumcised. now my biggest worry is that someone, a nurse at the hospital, one of our mothers, a well-meaning doctor, etc will someday pull his foreskin back before it's ready and cause him a lot of pain and trauma.even my own husband had no idea how to care for an uncircumcized penis and i had to tell him. i guess it's the crazy mother gene kicking in already. i just wish that as americans we were more aware of how to take care of (and leave alone) an intact penis. ok vent over. thanks for listening.

Re: Please Help My son's Penis is very Red !!!

I posted on this subject a little while back. I think my sons infection was caused by diaper doublers that we put in his diapers because he kept wetting out durning the night. He penis was all red and swollen looking but after a few days of antibiotics he was loooking much better. We stopped using the doublers and has been fine even since. The dr that I took him to gave me bad info and I am so grateful to the others on this board for their advice. Please try everything before you resort to a circumcision. Good luck!

Re: Please Help My son's Penis is very Red !!!

Hello GEOFB
Thanks so much for all the information! My sons infections does not seem to clear up with just the ointment he aways needs a oral antb and it has been month after month with these infections. The cream that was given to him by his Dr. was betamethasone but after only using it a short will i noticed some reddness so i stop using it. Can you suggest anything else??

I have been told by several docs that i should retract the skin just as far as it will go i have never felt comfortable with doing this but maybe this is why he is having all of these issuse's but i doubt it

Thanks

Re: Please Help My son's Penis is very Red !!!

oh i forgot to mention that i got a visit from my mother-in-law and she seems to think this is all my fault . I was told by her that i should use baby oil and retract the skin daily she even wanted to do this her self if i didnt stop her Is she crazy !!!!!!

She also said she had none of these problems with her 5 sons and she did exactly what she is telling me to do, In her words exactly i should have taken care of this a long time ago. I was so upset yesterday, his penis is so red and swollen and she wants to put beby oil and start retracting it

Thanks for letting me vent.
I just want my son to get better and not have these issues

Re: Please Help My son's Penis is very Red !!!

when my boys were little, desitin worked just fine, the few times they needed anything. any diaper cream with zinc oxide should help. if it is yeast, and it seems to be, monistat should do the trick.
don't take any crap from your mother-in-law. she's not crazy, she's just misinformed, and thinks she is experienced. she was lucky she had no problems retracting her sons.
that doesn't mean it was the right thing to do. you don't need an "I told you so" now. you have enough to worry about with your son. don't let worrying about her undermine you. you are doing the best you can, under some very trying circumstances. I wish you luck with your son.
