Re: Been On Norco For 2 Years-need Off

Hi Shelley,

Good for you getting stocked up and ready! And thanks for the breast cancer advice. Yikes! That is so scary. You are such a strong woman to have survived and beaten cancer. You can beat this too!

I'm feeling crappy too today. I think I have a cold/virus. It's hard convincing myself that a pill wouldn't help. I guess some days you just have to accept feeling bad.

I'm glad that your husband is supportive. That makes such a huge difference!

You can do it! My withdrawals were really just awful for about 3 days. The whole first week was pretty off, but it was bearable. Each day afterwards will get a little better at a time. Let us know how you're doing!

Red face Re: Been On Norco For 2 Years-need Off

debbie, i have been sleeping on and off all day. i have taken ativan, klonipine, and meletonin. i finally took 1 norco, i have not had one since 3:30 am last night. my perscription ran out today , i have 3 left. if i get it filled i get 200! i am afraid to have all those pills. will i get addicted to the ativan and other stuff if i take lots of it to dope me up? i'm thinking maybe since my max pill taking was 6 or 7 pills a day my withdrawal might not be as tough as everyone elses? right now i feel good cause the norco kicked in and i remember why i like it so much. does anyone out there think i should just go cold turkey? i went from 6 to 4 to 3 to 1 1/2. any words of advice are appreciated.
ps. i hope it was ok to talk about the breast cancer in this forum.

Re: Been On Norco For 2 Years-need Off

Hey Shelley,

How's it going? I wouldn't worry about getting hooked on the Activan. I slipped, so I feel ashamed posting on this board. I also don't feel like I should be giving advice on getting clean and sober. I've got an awful cold/maybe the flu and have been feeling so bad. I found my hidden one last night and today conned my mom out of a few pills she's been holding for me. Yes my back is hurting a little but that's not why I want them. I have out of town visitors coming over tomorrow and my house isn't clean and they know I've been laid off for months, so I feel like such a loser that the place isn't clean. (This one woman is a CLEAN FREAK so I know I'll be judged.) Anyway, I got a mini buzz last night and cleaned but ironically today I took 2 and feel just as crappy as I did. I know it's pathetic that I think I need drugs to clean my house. I actually was cleaning and keeping up with life straight, but being sick has wiped me out and I can't stand being wiped out. I'm kind of like you, I have a refill somewhere for 120 and I'm not going to fill it. I know if I did I'd be back where I was. This is not good, but I've already done it so I am going to start fresh and clean tomorrow. It sucks b/c I really, really enjoyed the norco buzz last night and I too remembered how much I loved them. And mad at myself for flushing them. But then I remembered how out of control I was. Part of me wishes I could take a couple here and there, like going out to a bar on the weekend to get drunk, but not drinking every day. I know myself though and know I'm dancing with the devil here. My mom was holding a small amount (maybe 13) of pills for me, in case I got really bad back pain. I told her my back was hurting this morning and to her credit she said no on the pills. Manipulative me worked on her all day (she was over babysitting and visiting) until I got her to give me her keys to her place and got 3. She didn't want to but anyway. I am not very proud of myself right now and don't want to spend tonight wallowing in what a loser I am. I have to finish getting this place in order. I guess with a 5 year old, 2 dogs and a cat it's no wonder that my place never stays clean! I had a twice-a-month housekeeper when I was working and I am really a crappy housekeeper myself. Anyway, sorry to ramble so. Just the guilt.....

Re: Been On Norco For 2 Years-need Off

I would worry about getting hooked on Ativan.

Ativan

Prescription Drug Ativan® (lorazepam)

Lorazepam, generic name for the popular anti-anxiety medication Ativan®. Ativan® is indicated for generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder, and anxiety associated with depression. Ativan® (lorazepam) is sometimes used as a sleeping agent, anti-convulsant, and alcohol detoxification. Caution should be used, as Ativan® has been shown to cause physical and psychological dependence. Ativan® (lorazepam) has also been shown to cause blood disorders. Ativan® (lorazepam) can cause decreased appetite (weight loss) in some people and increased appetite (weight gain) in others.

Ativan® (lorazepam) is classified pharmacologically as a benzodiazepine. The use of benzodiazepines and related drugs may be associated with side effects such as, drowsiness that can occur in up to 75% of the people taking benzodiazepines. Discontinued use, especially when abrupt, may result in spontaneous side effects including tremor, abdominal cramping, sweating, insomnia, and convulsions. Side effects may also include fatigue, memory impairment, nausea, vomiting, constipation, blurred vision, sexual dysfunction, and decreased sexual drive.

Just wanted to give you a heads up. You're in my prayers.
Michele

Re: Been On Norco For 2 Years-need Off

Oops! I didn't know that was in the xanax family. I stand corrected!

Shelley, I took xanax for my first few days of withdrawals then took it down to 1 a day, then a half, then stopped. I wouldn't take it for over a week. Obviously I cannot give advice on beating addictions, but from what I've read, getting off of benzos is a nightmare. So yea, be careful.

Thanks Michelle!
