Question accutane & anti-depressants

Anyone on accutane and take anti depressants? Is this safe?

Note: I have had anxiety/social phobia & attention deficit all my life. Accutane did not make me a depressed person (actually made me happier because the acne is gone). I am thinking to take anti depressants for my anxiety & ADD probably while on it or straight after it. Does anyone know if this effects the whole process of acne? like would it come back because of the drugs?

Thanks~

Re: accutane & anti-depressants

I am taking Accutane right now and my derm prescribed for me knowing that I take Celexa and Welbutrin. My GP knows that I am on all and so does my Gyn. Nobody expressed concern.

Re: accutane & anti-depressants

I am also on an antidepressant for anxiety concerns, Effexor. The doctors told me it was just important to monitor and make sure I didnt have more neuro-psychiatric symptoms, but other than that, it's fine.

Did the anti depressants affect the accutane treatment at all? (like additional side effects).. longer to heal.. etc..??? Thanks~~ =)

Re: accutane & anti-depressants

Technically there are no drug interactions on the books meaning neither has been documented to interfere with the effectiveness of the other, but for every person it is different. Also since accutane causes depression in some people it could seem to make the antidepressant less effective, although indirectly. For me I believe that both are working, although my skin has been slow to clear up and is very red with scars. My doctors dont think the antidepressant will interfere with skin clearing though, if any drug was going to influence the other, it would be the accutane influencing your anxiety, not the other way around, so I would definitely try something for relief of your anxiety symptoms without too much fear of additional skin problems. That being said, Id ask a doctor, too.
