Toprol XL

Thanks for the replys to my earlier post.

This BP medication is new for me. I took lotensin for 20 years with no problem. My BP went up at last checkup and we have been juggling medications for last six months trying to find something that will work without giving me extra beats etc.

I have been on Toprol XL with Lotensin for a month now. I have been very tired and at times dizzy headed which I know is a side effect of Toprol. Anyone have any experience with this and does it go away or should I go ahead and try something else? It also has decreased my pulse from a normal 48 to 40. Thanks.

Re: Toprol XL

I was on Toprol XL for about 3 years (WAY too long!) and the fatigue never went away for me. Like I mentioned in another post, I was like a walking zombie. Not only was I tired all of the time, but I had a "fuzzy" feeling in my head too....things just weren't clear, kind of like when you have a head cold...but instead of 7-10 days, mine lasted 3 years!

But then again, I was on 200 mg of Toprol, so if you're on a lower dose, it may work out differently than my experience. Here's hoping!

Good luck!

Re: Toprol XL

Thanks for your reply DAnn73.

I have some of the same symptons as you describe and have been on for about 30 days. I hope it clears up. If not, I do not want 3 years or more of this!

Re: Toprol XL

My mom took toprol xl for many years. It started at at 100 mgs and then 200 mgs. She said it was the worst bp med she has ever taken. It even caused her to temporarily go blind in her right eye. Toprol xl also causes masked glucose levels and depression for my mom. All those were new to her.

the dr. wouldn't take her off it so she did it herself. I would advise not to abruptly stop toprol, but wean gradually if you decide not to take it. Good luck.
