Is this normal..Help

I have been on Adderall now for about a month and half now. I take 3 - 10 MG pills per day basically one every 4 hours. My issue is its not working this week. I feel like im coming to a screeching halt, I cant concentrate im reading stuff about 3 or more times. I am having a hard time scheduling things at work and staying on top of my tasks.

I was considering a dosage increase from my psych when I go back in a week. However Im wondering if it will do it again in a month and a half? Does the dosage matter by body weight? If Im 260 LB's do I need a bigger dose then someone who is say 180 LB's? Does it work this way? All I know Is the first month everything was great, I was getting stuff done, I was motivated, I was able to stay on task and finish projects. It even helped with the social disorder however all that is gone this week.

Help

Tolerance is a big issue with these meds. You can up the dose but later on tolerance can set in again, and higher dosing can increase chances of unwanted side effects of the drug.

Also, with continued exposure to a chemical like amphetamine, brain receptors can downregulate or shut down so original condition can seem worse upon discontinuation. IMHO, the meds don't solve the problem in the long run and could make it worse... but that's up to the individual to outweigh the risks to benefits ratio of taking the drugs.

No, tolerance doesn't always build up that quickly, especially when you do get to higher doses. It can take many years to get to the point you would need 200 mg! (would they even write a prescription out for that much?)

Tolerance is a possibility with any drug down the line, but they will always find other meds and ways to make the medication work, well, at least part of the time anyway.....that's just it: you can't expect the med to get rid of ADD for good or work forever correctly or completely!

Sometimes people just lower their expectations down the line.....for example, I know many people who have have built tolerance to Ambien for sleep, yet they can't sleep without it (dependancy) so they accept the fact that they may only get 4 hours of sleep when they take it, whereas when they first went on it they got full nights sleep on it.

I had a simular problem with Ativan for sleep, except that I did not accept the fact that when I was in tolerance it would only work on some nights or that I only slept 4 hours on it (it used to provide 6-7 hours of sleep).

So I decided enough is enough I got off it and after a very protracted (and horrific) post-withdrawal period my sleep finally came back naturally.

So if you take a drug that is psychoactive for years, you most likely will depend on it greatly since it is also a dependancy drug so you won't be able to just quit it and might probably accept the times, as many do, when it fails because of the times when it does kick in a bit to help your ADD.

But it's important to never increase your dose on your own if it doesn't work down the line, you should always consult the doctor.

Re: Is this normal..Help

what about if I switch to stratterra? Its a non stimulant? would that be a better choice. I understand that the better choice would be to learn to cope but I dont want to go to that.

Right now I am excelling at my job like I have never before, im getting things done. My social anxiety is better. It hasnt been the greatest the last couple weeks because of the tolerance but overall its helping
