What causes this?

When I get up in the morning my pulse rate is usually about 100-104. It takes about 10-20 minutes before it comes down to about 80. I'm not doing anything strenuous, just packing the kids lunches. I've also noticed that when I get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, that upon arising my pulse goes way up, and then slows down when I lay back down. Then about the time I have to get pick up my kids from school, say 2:30, my resting pulse goes up to about 92 or so. I am currently on meds for hbp. I am on thyroid meds also, but am having lots of trouble with them. Does anyone know why this might be happening, it's starting to make me anxious!

Re: What causes this?

I take accupril 40mg and 5mg norvasc every morning, and then 40mg accupril and 2.5mg norvasc in the pm. My morning varies but is usually around 130/80. The pm is about 140/89 sometime lower. The 2.5 norvasc in the pm is a recent addition. I also take natural hormone replacement and thyroid meds. Boy, it sure does get complicated. Thanks for any input you may have!

Re: What causes this?

I wish I can help you but I don't know if it's the High BP or the Thyroid Meds so I hope that someone else can help you
Good luck

Re: What causes this?

Couple possibilities:
If you awaken to an alarm clock, the shock should be good for an increase in heart-rate.
If you stand up and then take your heart rate, the fall in blood pressure to the brain (hypostatic reaction) will trigger a higher heart rate to get nourishment to the brain.

What is your heart-rate after awakening but BEFORE standing up?
