bacterial infection or allergies

I know that they go hand in hand.

But what are the chances of a bacterial infection if my mucus discharge has always been thin and clear, or just a little thick and cloudy.

Also antihistimines don't help. Just dont know how to treat this sinus congestion. I've done everything. Nasal rinses, floodings help temporarily.

Going to an ENT and allergy specialist. Antibiotics are not working. Avalox, and amoxicillin makes no difference.

Allergies with mostly clear discharge? Any body have a persistant re-occuring bacterial sinus infection with no green-and/or yellow discharge, just clear, or sometimes alittle cloudy? I drink tons of water.

thanks, John

Re: bacterial infection or allergies

chances of it being a sinus infection with no green/yellow drainage are pretty slim but still possible. Sometimes if you are so congested that it will not come out you will just not see it etc. Antihistimines will help to dry you up even more but will not help to unclog you; they will also help if you have sneezing or runny eyes etc but not with decongesting you. If you are clogged up you should take soemthing that is a decongestant such as sudafed. It could be an allergy triggering this so you may need to be on something such as singulair or flonase to help with the allergies. I would definitely see a doctor such as your primary but at this point I don't know if an allergist is required.

feel better soon,
Amanda

this is actually my problem.. no Dr or even myself even suspected a sinus infection until a CT scan showed my cheek bone sinuses were really infected. have you had a CT scan? that would help explain a lot.

How are you dealing with your infection? I have been on 4 different kinds of antibiotics (Levaquin, Ketek, Ceftin and Omnicef) they haven’t been able to clear the left maxillary infection, the nasal congestion is driving me crazy.

Thank you.
