Need Help...

I am 22 years old, a male and have mild-moderate acne. I have been on the same routine for about 6 months now. First thing I do when I wake up is wash my face with Dove soap, then I apply Benzaclin, and last but not least I take a 20mg Doxycycline pill. Then about 5:00 at night b4 I go to my girlfriends house I take a shower and wash my face with Dove Soap again. I don't do anything after this. Then about 11 or 12 I wash my face again with dove soap and apply a lotion called Klaron. Then i take another 20mg Doxycycline pill, and go to sleep. Then when I wake up I do the whole routine again. I seemed to have my acne under control the last few months...Meaning I would get get a few pimples a week, but nothing too serious. However, for the last 3 weeks I have had at least 8 zits on my face every day. This is the worst I looked in years. Do you think it is time for a new routine? I was thinking about going on Minocycline and other topicals. I go to see my derm next week. I am getting so angry lately and snap at the littlest things. Do you think maybe i've become so immuned to the Doxy that it's not working anymore? Any advice would help so much. Thank you for reading this, I really need help

From reading this and reading alot of other posts like this i would say get a new routine and i would say you are immune to it now and your bacteria is finding a way to get around doxy.

Re: Need Help...

I think you should avoid using Dove because of the chemicals in the soap. Use a mild, soap free, paraben free, ph balanced soap.

Re: Need Help...

#1 - You are immune to doxy (you probably won't get more than 6 months of results from this)

You could ask for mino, but the same cycle will repeat and i feel you are doin more harm than good with antibiotics

#2- No Dove soap or any soap of any kind for that matter!

Some people can get by using this, but a lot of people won't. Soaps are not recommended for the face or acne sufferers (esp bar soap since it can become a breeding ground for bacteria).

Why? Because soaps are alkaline (pH 9-11) and basic and are horrible for the skin. The normal skin pH is acidic and is around 4.5-6. People with acne and other associated skin problems have a skin pH of higher than 6 (as we get older, our skin because more neutral (7) and becomes more weak). A higher skin pH will provide a great breeding ground for those acne causing P.bacteria. In sum, a lower skin pH will mean less bacteria, less acne, and healthier skin!
