Breaking out!!!

I am on my first week of Demulen and I really want to know reactions anyone has had with it. I have been on Ortho- Tri- Cyclen LO (6 months) and Loestrin (3 months), and they both make my face break out really bad, with huge pimples that you cant pop and take at least two weeks for the swelling to go down (Loestrin was a little worse). I would really like to know if anyone who has had trouble with birth control causing them to break out, if they have found one that dosent make you break out?

Please Reply!!!

Re: Breaking out!!!

I am on Deppo, and I am 25, and I feel like a pre-teen all over again. Different b.c. act in different ways. Yasmin and Ortho Evra did not cause me to break out. I believe it has to do with hormones. Specifically the control of the male hormone. It is called androgen. Some b.c., I beleive contain this hormone, or do not control it. I beleive I read that the hormones higher in progestrine and estrogen do that. Desogen, Demulen, Brevicon, Ortho Tri-Cyclen, Ovcon 35, Ortho Novum 7/7/7 and Nelova are likely reducers or acne and are often perscrided for it. You can do an internet search for 'birth control and acne', Hope it helps!

Re: Breaking out!!!

I have been on OTC and Alesse and hated both of them. I swear Alesse was what first caused my acne problem. Then I switched to OTC and not only did I still have the acne but I was an emotional wreck. Yasmin is an awesome pill- no bad side effects for me and my skin really cleared up. I just switched to Desogen (actually to Apri the generic)due to insurance reasons which is supposed to be good for acne also. I would suggest Yasmin first.

Thanks for the replies!! I have heard so many good things about Yasmin lately. This last time I went to the doctor to change my pill, I talked to her about all the good things I have heard about Yasmin, but I found out it was not covered by my insurance, so I decided to go with what the doctor recommended... Demulen. I think I will have to rough it out for 3 months and see what happens, that is if I last that long!

I just wanted to see if I could find more women who have had trouble with birth control pills making them break out... to see if Yasmin or anything else has worked for them. I am almost to the point of wanting to stop the pill all together. It’s not like my skin was completely clear before I went on the pill (usually at least one small pimple on my face that would go away in a couple of days) but now... OMG I hate even being in front of my Husband... or anyone with out makeup on, I have too many scars and huge red bumps that never go away to even count! I just might have to fork over the money for Yasmin next time!

Re: Breaking out!!!

No problem, glad we can help! I use nuetrogena products now, to help me, and it works... not perfectly but it reduces them!
