If its your first time taking the pill, your doctor might prescribe a more popular pill, like ortho tricyclen lo. Its been my impression that doctors will start someone with a newer, popular pill (since with newer pills, it is more likely they will have samples available to give you), and then if you have side effects and want to switch pills, they will have a better idea of which one for you to switch to. In my opinion, theres absolutely nothing wrong with going about it this way, since there is no way to tell what kind of pill will work best.
Except, though, if you are concerned about it costing a lot, be sure to ask your doctor to prescribe a pill that has a generic version (generics are just as effective as name brands, and are so much cheaper). Because newer, popular pills probably dont have generics yet. Drug companies give doctor's offices samples of NEW brands of pills, so that their patients will pay full price for them. Good luck
