Facial Pain

Hello Everyone,

I am a regular on the Liver Disorder board, I have had such good reponses on it that I thought I would check the warter on this one.....since I have so many problems.

I am 33 yrs old and have 3 very active children and a demanding job. I have had lots of problems for years and they just seem to get worse. I had my tonsils out a couple of years ago due to chronic strep throat and tonsilitis. Any way for the last 6 months my sinuses have been in horrible shape. I have been on all the Claritan D, Alegra D, Zyrtec D and Sudafed and Nyquil ...... and so forth. But my left side of my face hurts like crazy. I sleep on my left side at night so everything drains to that side. I have tried sleeping on my rightside but since I have liver tumors and had a resection to remove one last july I can't sleep on that side b/c of the pain. After several treatments of Avelox, Augmentin, Cipro and tons of steroids and 30 lbs. later we are going to try surgery. Septoplasty, Reduction of the turbinates and removing a bone spur from the septum on the left side.

The pain is so bad that I have to take Percocet or Lortab. Have any of you had this problem? And have you had the surgery?

Thanks,
Fannylou

Re: Facial Pain

Quite a few on these forums have had surgery done. My surgery was done 4 weeks ago on Friday. Septoplasty & turbinate reduction. Went pretty well for me. No more facial pain (huge plus! I was in massive pain for 6 months). I would recommend it personally. Some people do have problems, but if you have a good surgeon, you shouldn't have too many. I was really nervous about my surgery and didn't think it would help, but I'm very happy with how things worked out for me. I've felt better than I have in months, especially since I'm not popping pain meds every 2-4 hours any more like I was before and waking up in the middle of the night crying from the pain.

Re: Facial Pain

I had a turbinate reduction and a general cleaning out. Sinus surgery was the best thing I ever did. It gave me my life back.

Fannylou, I got a little scared after reading your post; I retrieved the following information from the physician reference book (every doctor has one of these books on his/her desk)

WARNINGS: All quinolones cause erosion of cartilage in weight-bearing joints. They may cause convulsions, increases intracranial pressure, toxic psychosis, CNS stimulation (i.e.nervousness, lightheadedness, confusion, hallucinations).Should not be used in anyone with seizure disorders, or cerebral arteriosclerosis. There have been deaths due to anaphylactic shock, and cardiovascular collapse. Also occurring are tingling, itching, facial swelling, facial pain, dryness syndrome (dry eyes, ears, nose and mouth) and difficult breathing.

Avelox and Cipro are members of the quinolones group of antibiotics; you should talk to your doctor about an Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) to quinos before considering surgery
