Re: New Rx-methadone I've never used this before.

Hey LD: You have to remember, there really isn't a ceiling on long acting medications. Although Methadone isn't a true LA, it's long half life makes it act like one. The ceiling on Oxycontin, MS Contin, Fentenyl, etc are what the patient can tolerate in the way of any side effects. I'm at 180 on the Meth, but I've heard of people higher. On Oxycontin, I was at 480 a day when my doc switched me to something else. So, there really isn't a max amount, it's what you can take to get pain relief and still tolerate it.

Re: New Rx-methadone I've never used this before.

Hi Everyone,

I want to say that all of the supportive statements that all have been posting are really helpful to me. Ashley, I hope you are reading them and let all of us know how you are doing. You have been on my mind a lot. LD, you too give a lot of support and comfort in the gifted way you express your thoughts. It sounds like once you talk to your Dr. and get everything straightened out life will be looking a lot better for you . Director, what can I say about you? With all you have to deal with you are always there for others. You truly are an . I have had a rough few days, but I have managed to stay on 2.5 mgm a day since last Saturday. The tremors are much better from this morning, so I thought I better sit and write (my coccydynia) while I can. The perspiration is just running down all over the front of me. (I never knew boobs could sweat so much) ! How I wish I could have been a success story with the methadone like you, Director. I did give it 4 months, and I was faced with a trade-off....no pain or no brain. Either way I was faced with giving up a part of my life. I have really good Dr.'s and I have a lot of faith that we will find a way to control the pain. Best wishes to all of you. Amy
P.S. Really hope to hear how you are doing, Ashley.

Re: New Rx-methadone I've never used this before.

Hi all!
Well I'm doing okay...I guess! I know the point of the methadone is to consistantly take it so it gets in your system, but the side-effects suck so much. SO I've been only taking 5mg at night. But I still get so nauseous, and I get horrible migraines when I wake up. EVen taking the Zofran the nausea is realy bad. My doctor said they give Zofran to chemotherapy patients, so I guess I figured it would be pretty strong, but it isnt. (Or it doesn't seem to be!) But other than that I'm doing okay. I was very good and didnt drink a drop on or since my 21st birthday. (I'm going to Vegas tomorrow for the whole weekend with my twin sister and my parents, and I will probably be the only sober person over 21 in the whole city but at least I will be safe, right) Well thanks for all the advice and help guys, talk to you soon.

Ashley

Re: New Rx-methadone I've never used this before.

To all the methadone users I am a navy vet and I have used it before and am now curently taking it for chronic lower back pain and I also have muscle spasms, tremors, fibromyalgia, sarcordosis and ashma. Just to let you all know if you didn't methadone is actually used to help recovering drug addicts get off of things like cocaine. But back to the matter at hand the dosage they put me on is between 25-50 mg I think, but once you start and try to get off it is had I have been dealing with this pain for eight years now and nothing seems to really help all it mostly does is relieve the pain for a short while. It just makes me made a doctor gives you meds send you home and you still are in pain if i have helped you in anyway you are welcome. oh and by the way the best thing for nausea is phenergan, toast, or crackers.

Re: New Rx-methadone I've never used this before.

Just so everyone is clear on something: Methadone is NOT for recovering cocaine addicts, like the original post said. It is used for recovering OPIATE addicts, e.g., heroin OR narcotic pain meds which work by binding to the opioid receptors.

If anyone is foolish enough to believe that Methadone is for cocaine addicts, maybe they should do some more research about a drug which has helped millions of people worldwide-not just for recovery but now for pain management.
