trying to end the rebound headaches!!

I just discovered this message board. On the one hand, it brings me some comfort to know that I am not alone in my battle to find some relief from my migraines. On the other hand, I feel sad that there are so many others suffering just like me. Migraine is such an awful illness, and the more I research and read others' stories, the more I am convinced that doctors just really don't have a clue how to treat them (and I have a very wonderful doctor).

5 and a half years ago, after the birth of my second child, I was diagnosed with menstrual migraine and hormonal headaches. For some time, triptans brought me great relief--but I didn't really realize that too many could actually work against me. I began to need more and also added excedrin because it really sped up the pain relief. My hormonal headaches turned into chronic daily headaches.

I made the decision that it was time to go off the pain meds. I really need my life back. I have been off pain meds for 13 days!! Just since day 7 has it become quite unbearable. I am in alot of pain--which I expected. I'm just wondering--when does it start to get better. I just need to see a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel. Has anyone else gotten off the triptans (maxalt, amerge, etc.) and excedrin???

Best of luck to all of you on this journey--God Bless!

Re: trying to end the rebound headaches!!

My work comp atty and I were disscussing my headaches the other day and she said she used to get headaches and migraines just like yours. I asked her what she did to make them stop and she said she went on birth control pills and has never had another problem. Just thought I'd mention it to you. Good Luck!!!

Re: trying to end the rebound headaches!!

Thanks BlueSteam for your reply. Because of the estrogen in birth control pills they actually make my headaches worse. Too much estrogen is one of the reasons I get migraines. Trust me, I think I have tried just about every preventative out there--still no relief. The one thing that I have not tried is seeing a chiropractor. Once I get through the process of getting all the pain meds out of my system I think I will give that a try.

God Bless!

I have suffered from migraines for years now. They finally put me on a low blood pressure pill to lessen them.. It worked! I also researxhed it and I now take Feverfew (excellent herb) Calcium, Magniesium, B-2. With all of that I still get them but not that many anymore. Do not take Tylenol Sinus and Vicoden you will get rebounds!!!! Good Luck to you!!!!!
