Colon Cancer/Problem

Hi,

My mother has Stage five Colon Cancer which has attached itself to her pelvis and she will not be able to have surgery unless they are able to make the tumor mobile, so she starts Chemo/Radation tommorow, and will continue for six weeks.

She has been taking Endocet for pain and was given a prescription today for Oxycodine.

In the last week or so her pain has been getting worse and she is now having alot of trouble being able to Pee. She said she needs to, but cant. I was wondering if any of you have had similar sythoms and can perhaps shed some light. Shes had two urine tests, one on Friday and yesterday but no results back yet. Is it possiable the tumor may be causing this? or that it has spread? Her doctor did tell her to be prepared that when they operate it is possiable they may have to do an emergency hysterectomy as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Re: Colon Cancer/Problem

Some meds can interfre with urination, at least in men. I know that some cold remedies I have to stay away from but that's a male problem.

I wish I could offer more. Perhaps someone else can. Hope things go well with your Mom.

Re: Colon Cancer/Problem

Asani:
Oxycodone is known for causing urinary retention in men and women. It's very important that she empty her bladder or she might cause kidney damage. Even if she bears down for now to empty most of the urine. Have her call her oncologist and switch medications. ALL narcotics tend to cause urinary retention, although some are more sensitive than others. She can try morphine, which has less of these symptoms.

Good Luck,
CancerDad
