Re: "That Feeling" in my chest... does anyone else get it ?

pulltab,

I would get that same feeling along with all of this - outright panic. It was very scary and it was happening all of the time it seems. I went to my Dr. about 5 times, to the emergency room twice, a cardiologist to rule out heart issues and then an endocrinologist who tested me for all sorts of strange disorders that cause that adrenaline surge and flushing. Everyone kept saying it must be panic attacks and anxiety but it came out of nowhere and I was not under any more stress than usual. I finally went to my OBGYN who said this, along with some other issues I was having, were all signs of hormonal imnbalance and he put me on the pill. By my second month on the pill - no more rushes! I still can't believe that hormones can do this to you, but when I decided to stop the pill about a year ago, within 3 months I started having them again. Needless to say, I went back on the pill and it has not happenned since.

This may not be what is causing your "surges" but I felt it was worth posting about my situation in the hope that it might help someone out there who is going through this.

Re: "That Feeling" in my chest... does anyone else get it ?

to a post i read a few pages back.
im on betablockers (propranolol) and they do stop the surges. it takes about 20 inutes to work but you just feel a bit calmer, looser, not as tense. your head feels fine, it doesnt alter your thinking all as they do is slow your heart rate down, but if you have a had a bad time recently with jazzy heartbeats(haha!) then beta would work well.

I LIVE WITH IT CONSTANTLY! I am on 4 mg klonopin a day and still have it, non-stop. Have been on it for 5 years, started at 0.5 mg. But, I also have seizure disorder and panic/anxiety disorder so I have to have the klonopin, wish something could help me!

Just like you "tnmom" - it keps me from falling asleep for a bit.

I'm wondering if this is something a Beta Blocker would help ???? (I still haven't tried 'em yet... waiting for my "2nd Opinion" dr. meeting).
Hello,
I am on two BetaBlockers a day and have been on them for 6 months and only until I starting taking xanax did my anxiety subside. Even though I am on the BB's I still wake up with anxiety until I take my first xanax. Betas are for blood pressure and they still don't work when you have an anxiety.
Good luck-

Question Re: "That Feeling" in my chest... does anyone else get it ?

Hey guys-
i know exactly what you are talking about. I compare it to having someone jump out at you from behind something and yell boo! That inital feeling of pure adrenalin is so strong like i could explode with it and it always makes my stomach burn. It stays and stays. Sometimes I feel like I have been in a perpetual anxiety attack for most of my life. My first panic symptoms started in early adolescence. I didn't realize it then but I was programming my mind how to respond to something i couldn't control. I have all of these symptoms that are so automatic - like riding a bike, you can't unlearn that- i am lost in the past and the future and nowhere near the present and I don't even realize that it is happening until I am immobilized by fear. I feel like I want to change this problem but really how long is it going to take to unlearn something that took me 20years to learn to do??? Is there any way to "change your mind"?
