Re: Endoscopy + Ph Study

Hi Eve 8,

My GI doc told me to call him in a week for the results (So, that will be Thursday). I'm trying to stay as calm as possible about the waiting. No sense making ourselves nuts about it, right?

Hi Blondy,

You were smart to have the pH studies. My doc really wanted me to do it, but I was too scared. I have the vomiting issue, too (along with other GERD symptoms). What did they end up doing for your reflux?

I had no choice, my parents made me.

I ended up on a mutli-drug approach:

Prevacid 30mg, twice a day, phengergan 25 mg as needed, Reglan 10mg 4 times a day, Miralax 17 grams once a day, and Carafate 10ccs as needed.

I also found due to my high PPI needs I have to switch between the PPIs otherwise I become resistant.

My GI doctor doesn't believe in fundos in people my age, so I didn't get one, though I was sent for a second opinion, and that doctor was just an idiot.

I also have type 1 diabetes and asthma, which complicates things.

I had a traditional NG tube pH study, and it was not fun, but not that bad.

Re: Endoscopy + Ph Study

Thanks for the info, Blondy. I have asthma, IBS, thyroid disease, and an anxiety disorder, so I understand about the complications.

I think you hit the nail on the head re becoming resistant to the PPIs. I was on Prevacid for so many years. I'm hoping that the switch to Protonix will make a difference for me.

BTW, I can't take Reglan. I had a severe (anxiety-related) reaction to it years ago. I do take a med that is compounded for me as well as Pepcid. Sometimes I even need to supplement with Prilosec OTC. I know it's a lot of meds, but I can't seem to get by without them.
