Medications

I could not find a board to ask about medications so apologies if i am on the wrong board. I am also not sure if anyone can help with a medication problem.
But here goes, as i have suffered with severe Butt problems for 18 months and my dr has now said i have an abcess, i spoke with my dr last night and explained i am going abroad this coming weekend, and need some relief to enjoy my holiday. My dr has given me anti biotics to help clear my abcess till i get back from my Holiday then i will see a surgeon. But our conversation was hurried and i am now concerned if she has given me the wrong amount of anti biotics.
I am currently on :
Thyroxine 125mg for underactive thyroid
75mg Asprin
10mg cipralex
40mg Omeprazole for night coughing
Also on creams for sore butt and cream for mouth ulcers.

Also the Dr has given me these anti biotics:
Metronidazole 200mg - one three times a day for 5 days
Cefradine 500mg - one four times a day for 5 days
Itraconazole 100mg - one twice a day for 2 weeks.
Does anyone know if these 3 anti-biotics are ok to all be taken togther, i was on the Itracanazole previously and wondered if the i have been accidently given these again. My dr is not in today or tomorrow so i would ring and ask her, but i also dont wont her to feel i am doubting her as she is a fantastic Dr.

Re: Medications

I would ask your pharmacist about this. Pharmacists are very knowledgable about drug interactions. Be sure to take in a list of all the medications that you are currently on, and express your concerns about the three new medications.

Re: Medications

Yep,speak with your pharmacist.this IS the best possible person to ask about any and all med questions, they have access to many many differnt PC programs that can tell you just about anything and everything you need or want to know when it comes to any questions about any of your meds.after consulting with the pharm,if he/she feels there is any sort of a problem, they can contact and discuss this with your doc.any changes then can be done safely, and at the right amount or change in a totally different more effective type of anti B for your specific condition.

I very rarely ever call or see my doc when I have any questions about any meds at all.the pharm is just the best place for this.most docs are not even aware of the really important aspects of the actual meds they are Rxing to their patients, just the basics,ya know?scarey but true.just go talk with your pharmacist.have a fun trip.hope there are no 'suprises".FB

Re: Medications

Thank you both for your replies, i went to the pharmacist today and told him all that i was taking, he said it was fine. He said 2 of the anti b the dr gave me was because they work so well together, and the third one was actually an anti fungal type of anti b because the anti b's i have often cause bad thrush, so this should stop that happening. This has really put my mind at rest, the only big trouble i have now is the anti b's are making me feel so very very sick, i feel just awful and my belly is hurting as well. I am taking some pro biotic drinks to try to put the good bacteria back into my belly. Every time i move i want to throw up badly. Thanks once again.

Re: Medications

Hi willowthewisp,

I'm glad the pharmacist could help. 'Peace of Mind" is a great healer in itself.

It's always good to start taking a probiotic BEFORE starting antibiotics. The probiotic (Acidophilus) will correct your body's Ph and will help ease up the harsh feeling in stomach. And although you may feel sick - drink plenty of water and tea to help flush your system.

I was sick a lot as a child and at 11 years old I was diagnosed with an ulcer from antibiotic use. I don't take doctor prescribed antibiotics anymore (I have gone the natural healing way) but when I did-like you- I always had a bad reaction and they made my original symptoms feel worse. Some of us have more sensitive systems then others.

These days I take Acidophilus daily and it has helped to heal my stomach. Hope you start to feel well soon!
