Switch to another?

I've been on Aleese for about 5 months and I still spot during week 3 of the active pills. I had used Ortho Tri-Cyclin Lo for a couple months, but it made me too moody (arrgg!!!). Does anyone have any suggestions to another pill/shot/patch that I should switch to?

Thx!!!

Re: Switch to another?

I'm also spotting on my third week, but you know if my period on the sugar pill is lighter than this spotting and it has reduced my overall PMS symptoms then maybe I can live with this.

I'll wait for another 2-3 months and see.

Re: Switch to another?

Alesse is a really low dose pill. Levlen (levora, nordette, portia) have exactly the same hormone as alesse, just with a little bit higher dose of both (30mcg ethinyl estradiol, 0.15 mg levonorgestrel) which should prevent breakthrough bleeding.

Other options: Usually switching to a triphasic pill will decrease the late breakthrough bleeding (OTC, OTC lo, cyclessa) or switching to a pill will a higher progestin (Mircette(kariva), Microgestin 1/20(junel 1/20, Loestrin 1/20 have the same amount of estrogen as alesse).

Re: Switch to another?

Have you considered the Nuvaring? I was on Alesse and it was complete nightmare for me! BC pills were not working out, I was getting too many side affects so my doctor gave me nuvaring. Barely any side affects, you dont have t worry about taking it at the same time everyday, and my periods are pretty regular. If you arent shy about touching yourself down there, I'd say give it a shot :-)
