Re: Migraine for 5 days and counting...a little help please

He has give me Axert and Midrin. I went to a neurologist years ago for the Migraines. He gave me some meds to take when I first saw the stars and he said if that doesn't work then he will put me on daily preventative meds. After I got off the birthcontrol pill I was on, all my head pain subsided. I have been under a lot of stress lately and dealing with anxiety too. I don't go to sleep at the same time every night b/c I have trouble sleeping. I try to go to bed at the same time even if I am not falling asleep. I also tend to wake up several times in the middle of the night and sometimes I cannot get back to sleep. I drink plenty of water and I try to stick to a somewhat healthy eating plan. I have eliminated meats and chicken. I eat those about once every two or three weeks, I barely drink soda and never drink coffee. I don't eat fried foods that much either. I eat a lot of sandwiches and salads usually. I do have bad allergies and bad sinuses. I take Mucinex D and Alavert D. Other meds have not worked for me.

Its good that you are staying hydrated! Have you ever tried accupuncture? Or accupressure? If tension and anxiety are doing it to you (which they are you say) that might be the ticket!!

I go to a lady who keeps me for about 1 3/4 hours. Starts with a regular massage, then does accupuncture (hooks some up to stimulator), then does some work on my feet (fantastic!!), then does some deep massage and finishes with more of a regular massage. I feel like curling up when she is done and sleeping for the rest of the day.

Have you learned anything about relaxation techniques and visualization?

You know about chocolate and alchohol and caffeine and all that it sounds like. Do you take any type of analgesic other than the Midrin? If they continue maybe your Dr. can try a muscle relaxant out?? There are a couple out there that have helped many of us!!

Good luck//Chaz

ieshaj, what kind of specialist are you seeing now for your migraines?
Is he/she aware of the changes?

Hey dcdc,

I agree with you 100% about seeing a chirporactor. The only thing I'd add is go to see a 'good' chiropractor.

In my experiences at least, the difference between average and good is like night and day.

Get recc. from family, friends, any good athletes that you know - it will be worth it.

I started with a great chiropractor and had to go in once when he was out of town so I went and saw a friend of mine who was a chiro.. Big mistake!

Cheers//Chaz

Hi there. I'm new to these boards, but have been suffering with migraines for 8 years. My doctor told me if a migraine lasts over 2 days to go to the emergency room. I do have a 50 dollar copay there, but honestly if it's to that point I don't care what I'd have to pay....They usually hook me up to an IV for hydration and then give me some sort of shot into the IV. It takes about 15 minutes and then RELIEF!!!!!! They usually make me stay until the IV bag is finished, but that only takes about 2 hours or so once they see you. Not many of my friends with migraines realized that ERs take migraine sufferers, so I thought I'd pass this on.
