Re: Need some help here

being in pain will cause all of them to be high. infection will cause your sugar levels to increase. pain will make blood pressure go up and sugar too. so they really all go hand in hand

Re: Need some help here

Hello: It has been about 2 weeks now and the sugar level is not really going down. In the morning it is about 245 and then in the evening it is about 310-360. I've cut way back and it doesn't seem to be helping. What do I do next?

Hi brownowl,
I've read this thread from the first post and cannot believe you aren't on medication. You have to see your physician ....now. You are doing immeasurable damage to your blood vessels by waiting.
The doctor may put you on pills, insulin or a combination of both for now. The immediate goal is to get your blood sugars under control right away and then work with you to develop a diet/exercise plan that may eliminate or decrease the need for medication. You cannot possibly do this on your own.
You will feel better once you start being proactive in your care. I don't want to scare you but uncontrolled blood sugars in the 400's will result overtime in visual loss, organ failure or stroke . Why would you risk this?

It sounds like you are so overwhelmed by everything that has happened to you in the past several months you just do not know which way to go...I'm sorry that life has done this to you...but you need to get a handle on one thing at a time and it will help the others to get into control...First and First again is control the Diabetes....I'll explain further in a bit...

Your blood pressure can increase like you've said because you are in such tormoil...just having a new nurse at my doctors office or him getting me worked up can cause my blood pressure to rise..

Also any type of infection will cause your blood sugar levels to increase, even stress can effect you...

Now to your Diabetes control...I read that your eating patterns are all messed up....when you have T2 you need to spread your food consumption over the course of the day....your body needs time to process all the foods you've consumed.....Now my husband divides his alotted carb intake into 6 meals....he has breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack...
You said you went to a Diabetes counselor....where you given a chart and were you told about how many carbs you should consume for your body weight????
If you like soda and sweets you should start looking at sugar free and low carb....
If you continue to avoid control of your Diabetes it will control your life that it will have you taking the needle or worse.....
I don't like to scare people when it comes to Diabetes but it's your life we are talking about...My sister in law ---now deceased at 52 who was a T1 had all the possible side effects of diabetes you could have and the disease just destroyed her body, eyes, feet, heart(open heart surgery at 40)...you name it she had it...all because she wouldn't follow guidelines...now my hubby is a T2 and does he ever pay attention to his diet.
Reach out to your Diabetic counselor and ask for more help with your diet so you don't go on pills....but taking a pill is nothing more than just like taking a daily vitamin....

One more thing....we were told in our Diabetes Education Class......
You don't have to give up the foods you enjoy...you just need to eat them in moderation and count them on your carb intake.

So if you enjoy a bagel...only have half....

Re: Need some help here

Hello: I thank you all for your input, but I mistakenly left something out of my posting that you all should be aware of and why I have the concern. It should have read: "It has been 2 weeks since I saw my doctor and he put me on Glucophage (1000 mg a day) and Toprol for the heart rate and Altace for the blood pressure" and when I said cut way back -- I mean to almost nothing -- no pop, no bread -- just fruit and grains, and even those in moderation. My thing is -- even after doing all this for now almost 3 weeks, it is not making much of a difference and I don't know what that means so if someone could shed some light on whatelse I should be doing, I would appreciate it. Thank you.
