Meds -reference Guide

Posing this for my reference & for others.
Helps when I want to quikly look up & clarify what drug someone has mentioned they are taking.

BRONCHODILATORS Beta 2 agonists) RESCUE SHORT ACTING INHALERS

(Brand name/Drug Name)
1. Xopenex(levalbuterol) *Some people report less jittery side effects than allbuterol
2. Proventil & Ventolin (albuterol/U.S. name-Salbutamol/non U.S. name)
* Albuterol is levalbuterol & dexalbuteral
3. Maxair Autohaler (pirbuterol)

4. Combivent Aerosol Inhalation (ipratropium bromide long term bronchodilator controller med & albuterol sulfate quick rescue Anticholinergic Beta2-Agonist bronchodilator)
[SIZE="2"]Indicated for treatment of COPD not asthma/works within 15 min.,best after 1 to 2 hours, lasts 3/4/6 hours)
Indicated for use in patients with (COPD) on a regular aerosol bronchodilator who continue to have evidence of bronchospasm and who require a second bronchodilator.

2 BRONCHODILATORS/RESCUE SHORT ACTING NEBULIZED
1. Bronkometer & Bronkosol (isoetharine)


BRONCHODILATORS (ANTICHOLINERGICS/REDUCE MUSCLE SPASMS NON RESCUE INHALERS/SHORT ACTING


1. Atrovent (Ipratropium bromide)
Prescribed for long-term treatment of bronchial spasms (wheezing) associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary.


BRONCHODILATORS (beta2-adrenergic) NON RESCUE/lONG ACTING INHALED
1. Foradil (formoterol)
2. Serevent & Serevent Diskus (Salmeterol xinafoate)
*Advair contains salmeterol & fluticasone
3. SPIRIVA HandiHaler (tiotropium bromide inhalation powder)anticholinergic maintenance drug
treatment of bronchospasm (airway narrowing)
It works for full 24 hours to help your airways stay open all day

ANTI-INFLAMMATORY DRUGS/DAILY MAINTENANCE DRUGS)

1. Inhaled Corticosteroids (steroids)
Flovent (fluticasone)
Qvar (beclomethasone) More dangerous than flovent?
Pulmicort Powder (Budesonide)*low dosage prescribed for children 12mnths to 8 yrs
Asmanex (Mometasone)

Inhaled anti inflammatory

COMPOUNDS
Heterocyclic thiourea (HCT) prevents the release of leukotrienes from mast cells
GE2 molecule – genectically engineered fusion protein prevents both mast cells & basophils from releasing histamine.
