Has anyone used Pantanol and it cleared there eyes up then it just stopped working?

My right eye has been really red and there are swollen bumps right on the white of my eye pretty much since the spring and I also got a new kitty but I already had a cat and had no problems so I don't know which is the problem. Anyway I started using Pantanol eye drops in my right eye which is the red one and it seemed to clear it up and then I went outside for a few hours on night and it's been bad again ever since. I also started using Claritin a few days ago and it doesn't seem to be helping. Now today I took a Claritin this morning and then I took a benadryl a few hours ago. Benadryl makes me so tired but I am going to just keep taking it every 4 hours and see if it clears it up. Anyway what else can I do? Is there a stronger eye allergy drop?

Do you wear contacts? This happened to me, where Patanol seemed to work then stopped. Well, turns out it was fungal keratitis from Bausch & Lomb Renu - and I needed and antibiotic drop - which worked completely.

Yes I do wear contacts. I stopped wearing them 3 weeks ago though. I have been to the eye doctor twice now since then and he just tells me it's really irritated looking. How do they tell if it's an infection or allergies. Anyway the benadryl and pantanol has almost completely cleared it up now but it is still somewhat red. What kind of symptoms did you have?

I was just reading that they can do a culture of the eye so they know for sure. I have an appointment tomorrow again I should ask about that.

KAri - I had red, burning, dry eyes with just a bit of itch and goopy discharge when I woke up in the morning. The junior eye doc kept saying allergies and giving me Patanol which helped at first, then stopped working. I went back again, same thing. Finally I asked to see the senior doc. I insisted something else was wrong as it had been 5 months and it was just getting worse. He looked in my eyes and gave me drops for fungal infection, told me to not use my contacts for 4 days. Almost immediately my eyes went from very red to pure white and burning/dryness/discharge vanished! I finished the bottle and have had no problems since. I also stopped using all Bausch & Lomb products and lenses, switched to O2Optix lenses. Good luck with that.
