DF118 (dihydrocodine) & alchohol

anyone have any experience using this med? also wondering what the effects would be if mixed with alchohol. not talking about swallowing loads of pills then downing half a litre of vodka or anything, but what if you took one 40mil tablet during the day would you be able to have a couple of drinks that night and be ok or would it really mess you up.
im asking becuase i took one about an hour ago and this girl im kinda seeing is supposed to be coming up to mine for a drink tonight and i dont want to be totally wasted and give a bad impression.
i know mixing any prescription med or opiate with alchohol is a bad idea but in moderation would it maybe be ok? or is it likely to knock me for six?

Re: DF118 (dihydrocodine) & alchohol

ah yes - dihydrocodeine - I'm very familiar with that one. I used that for years, then moved to vicodin. I believe its about the same strength as vicodin - at least for me it effected me about the same - only I didn't crash as hard from the dihydrocodeine as I did from vicodin when I was using it every day. I can tell you from my experience, that I mixed alcohol with dihydrocodeine many, many times and, of course, didn't die - but everyone is different and it really isn't a good idea to mix as you well know.

If you're not addicted to dihydrocodeine yet, STOP taking them immediately. If you are addicted, work on a tapering plan and get off of them. They are very addicting! Good luck to you! I'm assuming you're concerned about the addiction potential or you wouldn't have come to this board.

A friend, jan

Re: DF118 (dihydrocodine) & alchohol

no im not addicted to it, but i have been addicted to diazapam (valium) and was regularly smoking heroin over a peroid of about 6-8 months. i stopped a few months ago although i have slipped up a few times and went and bought a few valium here and there, i can go periods of weeks at a time without anything so i wouldnt say im addicted now. i dont feel like i NEED them anymore, just occasional think it would be nice to get a few becuase i suffer from depression and anxiety as well and ive never really had a 100% succesful treatment for these conditions from my doctor. valium just makes me feel normal again. i went to my dealer last night to get a couple of valium becuase i was feeling i bit stressed and i was offered DF118 so i bought a few of them. i dont intend to keep taking them regularly but i was feeling a bit nervous about tonight so i took one earlier to chill out a bit. i feel ok tho, not really wasted, just fine.
i think i'll just stick to one or two drinks tonight and see how i feel.

EDIT: another important question, im also on beta blockers (propranolol) for the anxiety which have been helping a bit. does anyone know if these would react badly with DF's?

Re: DF118 (dihydrocodine) & alchohol

sorry don't know much about the beta blockers although I know there are many warnings out there about mixing beta blockers with certain medications. Hopefully, someone on this board will know.

As a former heroin addict, you must know you're on a slippery slope to use any opiates after recovering from the heroin addiction. I've tried to move to "less habit forming" opiates in the past, and for a period of time, I think I can do it, but it is a slippery slope. You have to decide what's best for you, however, and only you can do that. No judgement here!

Take care - keep posting with your questions - you'll find answers here and if I can find out anything about the beta blockers, I'll post back.

A friend, Jan

Re: DF118 (dihydrocodine) & alchohol

sorry, one more question. what about mixing DF's with valium. again im not talking about large doses, but what about 40mil or DF118, then taking 10mil diazapam a couple of hours later.
is this the kind of thing that could cause an o/d?
