Re: Frustrated

Since I had not heard of Atarax, I looked it up. I'm not sure I would be using that. Just a personal observation. Have you tried Zyrtec?

Thanks! I'll research this tonight.

Why? What is wrong with Atarax that makes it any worse then any other meds on the market. Without Atarax, my son is covered in hives from head to toe. We have tried Zyrtec and it doesn't work for my son. Of course, he is on the extreme side when it comes to allergies.

Re: Frustrated

Atarax is an antihistamine used to relieve the symptoms of common anxiety and tension and, in combination with other medications, to treat anxiety that results from physical illness. It also relieves itching from allergic reactions and can be used as a sedative before and after general anesthesia. This just doesn't sound like something I'd want to take. Also, the manufacturer recommends limiting usage to 4 months or less. That would concern me with a child.

Re: Frustrated

I would try another alternative doctor. What treatments did the other alternative doctor try? Not all alternative doctors are the same, some are better than others. NAET (allergy elimination technique) or SRT (sensitivity removal technique) helped my daughter. (It is acupressure). What also helps us is taking probiotics or acidophilus, which is what is in yogurt. Your immune cells are in your gut and acidiophilus is really healthy for your gut. Healthy gut=healthy immune system=allergy improvement. My daughter has also had her first food allergy shot (LDA - low dose allergen). You can google it for Dr. Shrader's web site and he has a list of the doctors who do it. These doctors also would be good alternative doctors to use. This is how we found our wonderful alternative doctor in Cinncinati, OH. It sounds like your son would have to get more stabilized before he could tolerate shots again, though. My daughter got other treatments for a year, which improved her health ,before she received her first shot. We have seen improvement in my daughter's food allergies and the shots are for airborne and chemical allergies too. Have you ever heard of leaky gut syndrome? This is what my daughter had and it is what caused all of her problems. Does your son have stomach pains, constipation and food passing through undigested? Good Luck.
