I cannot get this thing in line.

Try as I might. I cannot get my Bg below 250. Actually...it's gone from a high of over 500 to 250ish on a daily basis during the past month. It seems that the Metformin is working, as it's reading the same level every day...250ish...but, I can't get it lower? The diet..she no worky....the pills? She may worky. My doc is no roadmap. His response to me is..."You don't have your diabetes under control!!! Pay the cashier on your way out, and make sure you schedule a followup appointment in 30 days!!!" I guess I'm the one making his house payment for him.

I'm thinking about telling my doc to hit the skids and finding myself a new one....perhaps an endocrinologist. Either way, my money grubbing doc just lost his meal ticket. Anyone got any advice?

What have you been told to eat? My suggestion is that you go on a low-carb diet. It is really a no-brainer. If you stop eating the stuff that gets turned into glucose, you will find controlling your blood glucose levels a lot easier.

Cheers,

Mark

Re: I cannot get this thing in line.

Hi there ranger bob,

I love your name, being from australia it makes me think very romatic thoughts about the lone ranger and my childhood when I went to the saturday afternoon pictures,,,,wow,,,,

Well ranger bob, like it or not you are not following your diet properly, well you are going to say, 'what does this Ausiie know it all think she is saying'

But, you need to slow down your system, you have having too many high readings, you need to make it level out, not so many highs and lows.

So, seek out the stuff that is low glycemic....the old baked beans in a can are really good, preferably make your own,,,, what we call porridge, you call oatmeal....is great for lowering the Glycemic Index.

So Breakfast, Oatmeal
Lunch, Tuna (in brine not oil) on multi grain bread, lettuce and tomato
fat free mayo. absolutely no butter or margerine spreads.
For your main meal, choose completely fat free foods.

You know what, I reckon you are getting fats somewhere in there without realizing, correct me if I'm wrong, but its actually the fat that is more damaging than the sugars. We can actually have a small amount of sugar. But NOT fats of any kind.

And of course the killer diller,,,,NO Alcohol, that was really hard at first for me because I loved a glass of wine in the evenings....or three!!!!

So, my advice dear ranger bob, review your diet, somewhere you are getting the wrong stuff.....

Oh, absolutely NO FAST FOODS of any type,,,,they are just impossible...
Make everything yourself from scratch.

Neeksie the know all from Australia

Re: I cannot get this thing in line.

RangerBob, Since you are not communicating with you doctor, I would suggest that you find a new one-soon. If you have trouble controlling you blood sugar, I have heard that an endocrinologist is better than a family physician. We are all different, so each one of us has to find out what makes our blood sugar go up and what helps to lower it. A doctor can give you advice, but with diabetes, it's the patient that has to educate him or herself and deal with the disease. The internet is a great tool which you can use to educate yourself.

Most people who have diabetes find the following helps them get their diabetes under control

1-Eating a low carb diet based on sound nutrition.

2-Getting regular exercise.

3-Getting enough sleep. This is very, very important.

4-Reducing stress

5-Eating and sleeping in a regular cycle

Is this easy, absolutely not. It's very, very hard.

And few if any are perfect, but it's important to try. And even if you backslide a little, just keeping trying.

The cost of not getting diabetes under control is your health and eventually you life. Please let us know how you are doing.

Re: I cannot get this thing in line.

Is Metformin the only drug you are taking? If so that could be your problem. I take Metformin and Amaryl. Neither drug alone is adequate. My guess is that you need an additional drug. Can you talk to your doctor about that?
