Son has daily headache and sadness

My 12 year old son has been on 600 mg daily of Neurontin for combination of migraine and tension headaches for about 3 1/2 months. He also suffers from acid reflux which only seems to present symptoms when he's having headaches. He seemed to be improving over the summer and suffered a lot less. We've enrolled him in a new school to try to correct some past problems (bullying and boredom) but he's very sad about having no friends yet. As a result, his headaches have come back with a vengence, almost constant. He also sleeps vey poorly during these periods. Any suggestions on what may help. I'm really reluctant to go to anti-depressants when I hear about all the adverse side effects. Any advice would be appreciated!

Re: Son has daily headache and sadness

I to was a child sufferer. I started getting headaches when I was 10 yrs old. It sounds like stress could be causing his headaches to get worse. Does he saa a pyschiatrist or counsellor. If he isn't then maybe he should to treat the underlying problems. Obviously the bullying has affected him greatly the poor darling. I don't have much else that I can say to help. Actually I suffered with major depression for a lot of my teenage years and it still creeps back every now and then (i am now 30 yrs old). I have been on all the anti-depressants and the only one that I found didn't have horrible side effect is one of the oldest one. Prozac.
Good luck.
