Re: spironalactone

Spironolactone is a potassium sparing diuretic used to lower blood pressure by reducing fluid retention.

It does reduce oily skin as a side-effect but with many other potential side-effects --- I don't think are worth the problems the drug can produce. Sure it makes you lose weight because it reduces the water in your body.

I lost 10 pounds the first week I took it and to maintain the total amount of water you need -- you are going to have to keep drink more because this will make you urinate --- alot.

Some of the main side-effects are headaches, dizziness, fatitique, tender breast and irregular periods. Do a search -- there are alot more but not everyone has them all---

If you insist on taking this drug make sure that you are being cared for by a GOOD Endocriologist---that can routinely test your blood potassium levels because your potassium level needs to stay in a certain range -- too lower will cause irregular hearts beats and too high will cause death. Its use, I think, is out of the scope of doctors like GPs or Dermatologists for acne.

I took it because I have aldosteronism--- it did not work for me-- produced too low testosterone.
All females may get deeper voices--

There has just got to be something safer to use to reduce oily skin and less hair -- I also think it will affect your sex drive. You are messing with harmones with this drug.

I wish ya'll well~~~Harry

Re: spironalactone

Is spiro only effective with a bcp? I been on yasmin for 9 mo and it really does crap (well some months are better than others). Face usually oily and have been getting these painful cysts on my neck (yuck). Would it even benefit my acne to stay on yasmin if I get spiro?

Re: spironalactone

you dont have to be on bcp to take spiro, but most doctors recommend it for women because you shouldnt get pregnant while on spiro.

but a lot of bcp's actually contain spiro, which is one reason why bcp's help with acne. the difference is that bcp's usually contain about 25mg which is sometimes not enough.
