ive been diagnosed with colitis

Hi everyone, Just for everyones info I have had chronic diarrhea and intestinal pain for over a year. Finally got the nerve to go the doc. I had a colonoscopy done and he said everything looked fine visually. He did some biopsies. Well got the results back and it is collagenous colitis which is (microscopic colitis). More common in middle aged women. Only 2 in 100,000 cases. So even though visually your colon looks good hopefully your doctor does biopsies. It is treated the same exact way as ulcerative colitis. I am on Asacol for 6 month treatment.

Re: ive been diagnosed with coltis

Is microscopic colitis something that can be cured?

Although there are reports of people who have treated with alternative methods and when checked during follow-ups , all of the signs and symptoms of the disorder were gone. Biopsies negative as well.

Not saying everyone who has it can be "cured" but I think there are enough stories of it happening that there must be some merit.

Maybe I'm just being too optimistic (a rare thing for me), but I look at a disease or condition that doctors say there is no cure for as simply being something they haven't found a cure for yet.

Good luck to you!

Re: ive been diagnosed with coltis

Inflammation would be gone if the disease isn't active. Of course, cure is a subjective word. Cure to me would mean gone forever. There would, however, be remissions and flares, as with all autoimmune disease/disorders. And this is one of them.

Consistency would be the key, however. It can be treated with meds and controlled with meds, diet, supplements and other means to help maintain a healthy mind and attitude, be it mainstream or alternative/supportive.

Knowledge is power, and the patient should do all the research to be proactive (responsible) in his/her care.
