Question Flu Mist Nasal Flu Vaccine

Has anyone ever had this? I need flu protection but I dislike needles. Also the fact that the flu shots have thimerosol in them bother me. The flu mist is perservative free. I take the nasal spray for allergies nasonex? would this make me unable to use the flumist?

Re: Flu Mist Nasal Flu Vaccine

My husband is in the military and last year they did the Flu Nasal spray. It wasnt bad but he ended up getting the flu a few weeks later..then passed it on to me. He said it wasnt bad and alot of the people he worked with didnt have any side effects. Its a great alternative from what I have heard.

Talking Re: Flu Mist Nasal Flu Vaccine

^ thanks for replying to my post. He got this stuff and yet still got the flu? How depressing. Maybe those anti-vaccine people are right when they said that vaccines actually depress the immune system. I don't know...i've been reading lots of stuff on the internet and yet I am still not certain whether i should get a shot, the mist or nothing at all. The past couple of years, I've gotten flu shots and while I didn't get the flu, I got other respiratory things. And the year or two I skipped the shot, I didn't get sick from colds or flu. I don't know whether the vaccine messed me up or whether it was other factors (i.e. me being in contact with more people, those antibiotics that I was on) that made me iller during the vaccine years.

Re: Flu Mist Nasal Flu Vaccine

there are many strains of the flu and the vaccines are only geared towards three strains. He could easily have gotten a strain not covered by the vaccine plus, if he got it shortly after taking the vaccine it might not have had a chance to become fully effective.

Re: Flu Mist Nasal Flu Vaccine

I got it this year, I take Flonase for allergies and it wasn't an issue (in fact it is very similar in sensation to taking Flonase).

I always get a flu shot, would never go without it (so I'm glad there is a non-needle alternative). Of course, where I work it's necessary to do so. My hubby got the mist last year too and had no complaints.
