Question BC for skin after total hysterectomy?

I was wondering if Yasmin or another bc is ok to take for acne. I had a total hyst. in Nov of 02. I always had clear skin as a teen ager and young adult, but when I turned 30 I started breaking out and it only got worse. I am 39 now and still breaking out. Will bc do anything for my skin? If anyone has an idea, PLEASE LET ME KNOW! Thanks anyone!

I had a total hysterectomy in May 1998. My skin was acting up before, but got horrendously worse after the surgery. I tried the estrogen therapy, but it didn't work. I am convinced my body started to produce more testosterone and the little bit of estrogen in the patch wasn't enough to combat it.

I started yasmin on January 9......so being on it only a month doesn't really give me enough conclusive data to say if it has helped or not. Yasmin has estrogen plus a form of progestin that BLOCKS male hormones. I also take 50 mg of spironolactone which also blocks male hormones. I will say that this is the first time in almost 5 years that the hot flashes and sleepless nights have been lessened. But as for my skin, I will have to reserve judgement for awhile yet. I will keep you posted. I have gone through a very bad initial breakout on this pill, but am very much hoping that on the other side of that I will find relief.

I am 38 years old, also have lupus. Funny, my mom had a complete hyst. and never took any HRT/ERT and has beautiful porcelein skin. My mother in law, same thing. Women around me same thing...but my dermy convinced me to try this because he says my body is over sensitive to male hormones. I also develped some facial hair, not dark, but a little more than I had before all this, so he may be right. Time will tell. I have tried a million different things to FIX this problem and so far nothing has worked. I am scared but hopeful. Wil keep you posted.

laur, thanks for the response. I am going back to my gyn. this month. I'm gonna ask him if a male hormone blocker will help. I was given premarin .065 after the hyst, but it was causing leg cramps and headaches. I've tried 3 different bc pills in my life, but they all caused the same problems as the premarin. The reason I posted my question was because I did'nt know if there would be side effects since I have no female organs, which is usually why women take bc. I did'nt know if it would give me something I did'nt need in my system. I guess I'll hopefully be able to find out from my doc. I appreciate your input. Please keep me informed about your experience with Yasmin. Thanks!
