provigil

My doctor recently prescribed provigil to help with add symptoms. I know it is common for meds to be prescribed "off-label", but I haven't yet been able to find any info for this. My pharmacist hasn't heard of this application either. Has anyone taken this med or heard of it used for add?

Re: provigil

Provigil has been prescribed by some doctors (off label) to treat ADD for the last few years, but it doesn't seem to work well for most people. If your ADD is moderate to severe you will most likely see little or no improvement.

Re: provigil

Thanks Atomic,

I have experienced some improvement. Found out she also prescribed it as adjunct therapy for my depression. It has really helped there. Almost afraid to try something else for the add symptoms when it has helped so much with the depression.

I would have to self-pay, as well, if the only reason it's prescribed is for add, but it is covered if listed for depression. That's okay with me

It can help with depression since it's a mild stimulant. What type of doctor are you seeing? I would think that an anti-depressant (e.g. Lexapro, Cymbalta. etc.) and a traditional stimulant like Ritalin or Adderall would work much better, but I'm not a doctor and don't really know history.

Re: provigil

I tried Provigil, and had success for a long time. However, I am only mildly ADD and have severe depression. It was great for depression, but only helped ADD a little bit.
