Atarax?

My Dr put me on Atarax (an antihistamine) to help my anxiety attacks, I take 1 every 4-6 Hrs, but it doesn't seem to help at all- it doesn't even make me sleepy, but benadryl does...?

Re: Atarax?

An antihistamine will not help with anxiety attacks. The best you can hope for is sleepiness with an antihistamine, but I have never heard of it being used to treat anxiety. I would talk to your doctor about it and see if he will prescribbe and actual anit-anxiety drug. The Benzo's worked best for me, but everyone is different.

Re: Atarax?

ocdengineer is right.

I take Atarax for a side symptom that drives me nuts... itching! Do to anxiety.

I actually had the itching for some years before my first Anxiety/panic/nervous systom attack- which I thought was a full blown heart attack.

ocdengineer is right about benzos, I take zanax and it works great.. keeps me out of the emergency room
