Insomnia with 24 hr Claritin-D

Has anyone taken 24 hr Claritin-D and suffered insomnia?

I took it for 3 days a month ago and had to discontinue use due to 3 nights with very little sleep, probably less than 10 hrs total those 3 nights. I stopped, it still took one more day for the effects to ware off and finally I got a good nights sleep. The thing is, it helped my symptoms soooo much! I felt great otherwise. My head was finally clear, it was so great. After another month of suffering, I went out today and bought some more and took one this morning on my way into work, and it cleared me up within 2 hours.

So I guess my question is, will the insomnia eventually go away, if I keep taking it? Like maybe after a week, I'll get over it?

thanks-
jen

No. The "d" is a decongestant and it will keep you awake. Have you tried the regular without the "D"? You might and see if it works OK. OR, take a benedryl at bedtime thoughtt hat's really overmedicating...you'll be so dried out you'll be gulping water..

Re: Insomnia with 24 hr Claritin-D

I've had allergies for years, I have taken everything at least once sometime or the other. I hate the nasal sprays (flonase, nasacort, etc), zyrtec makes me so tired, claritin alone gives me little relief. Maybe i'll try the 12-hr version and sees if this keeps my congestion at ease enough to just breathe normally.
Thanks for your input.

I'd do that. I sometimes take a sudafed if the congestion gets to me. Though I have found that if I take a benedryl at bedtime it really helps.
Good luck!

I would take a regular Claratin every day, and add a Sudafed on an as needed basis, avoiding around bedtime.
