help...PPI Side effects

Hi I have GERD and now taking omeprazole (proton pump inhibitors) does anyone of you tried this medication? Did you experience any side effects?? I seem to have developed a very bad case of headache and I dont know if its because of this... its like the blood circulation is being cut from my brain! I feel weak and nauseus all the time and I also feel like the food is not being digested properly inmy stomach, isn't it suppose to cure bloatedness not cause it?... and also having diarrhea and how do you guys manage your gerd?? thanks

Are you taking prescription medication? Drink alot of water as these medications make me get dehydrated and that might be the cause of your headache. In the beginning I had some nausea-have you asked for medication for nausea. It comes in suppository form also so you don't have to swallow a pill. My only other side effect is nightmares.

I took omeprazole (Prilosec) for 1 1/2 months but had to switch to Protonix because I developed diarrhea(sp). It did help my symptoms, though. My pharmacist said that GI side effects are common. If your diarrhea is continuing beyond a few days, DEFINITELY get in touch with your doctor. It can be serious if it's not taken care of. You might try a different PPI. With Protonix, so far so good. Agree, try either a different PPI, or a high dose H2antagonist (such as ranitidine, 300mg twice daily)

Bloatedness and changes in bowel habits are common side effects, especially when first beginning PPI's.

Metamucil can help with your diarrhea and over-the-counter products made for gas that contain simethicone can help with the bloatednes.
